When you get distracted and misplace the wheel bearing and grease seal you were about to replace?
Wheel: with fixed tire, but now lacking bearing and seal ...
I’ve looked everywhere I’ve been in the last 20 minutes and I still can’t find the fucker...
I FOUND IT!
Underneath my hat, which I had taken off and set down because I was sweating profusely and it was getting saturated.

It’s always something, I got a magnet at work and I stick bolts to it since I usually drop one through the engine bay and can’t figure out where it went. They always somehow end up thirty feet away behind something.

Let’s hope you didn’t set them in the tire. Pick it up and give it a shake just in case.

Already did that with a short tire iron yesterday... Luckily I hadn’t set the bead yet when I realized it was missing...

My first thought: I’m glad he’s not a surgeon!
Good luck on your hunt!

I’m way too self aware to be a surgeon. That job requires a bit of a god-complex. If you’re constantly worried you’re gonna fuck up you’ll freeze and/or get nearly instantly burnt out... Engines and tires and much lower stakes, and I get riled up enough about them.

I hate when that happens, and it turns out right in front of you is always the last place you look for things.

MOST of my time spent wrenching is actually spent looking for the thing I just had in my hand.
Thats when you know its Modelo time, or half-past Modelo time.

I give up and ask my wife. She proceeds to find whatever it is in 5 seconds.
I just have to decide in advance how much I want to hear “really?” after she finds it.

ha - I lost two bushings when I was swapping the door opening direction (from hinge on the right to hinge on the left,) on our new fridge a few years ago. I have no idea where they went... never found them.

It would be pretty silly to keep looking for it after you found it, afterall

I do stuff like that all the time, also sometimes forget why I walked into a room or call co-workers I’ve know for years by the wrong name. But, if you want a detailed description of a hotel room I stayed in 30 years ago, or a recap of a great breakfast I had in 1999, I’ve got that down.

I don’t do a whole lot of work with tools, but when I do, I invariably carry a tool off to another room and leave it ther e absentmindedly , then can’t find it when I need. All. The. Time.
