Last night I spent a few hours looking up flights and lodgings at various spots around the world. Everything is cheap, with prices for many destinations half of what they usually would be.
I would love to go to Germany. Switzerland. Norway. Scotland. Do a food/castle/automotive/hiking trip for two or three weeks.
Alternatively go back to Bangkok, and party like it was my last week on planet earth. Then throw some hostels into the mix and check out Korea and Singapore...
An Airbnb-based architecture tour is also on my bucketlist, picking destinations solely based off of the most interesting places to stay at.
Unfortunately between Covid and work, I don’t see any international travel in the cards until at least until January.
I’ll be doing roadtrips though! Three day weekends mean I can travel a bit further out than normal, so the goal is to go somewhere new every week. Next week I’m heading north for my first motorcycle adventure with a buddy, and he doesn’t yet know that I’ll be convincing him to turn his ninja into a touring bike lol.
What about you? There’s gotta be someone taking advantage of the killer deals right now, right? Or... Maybe it’s time for that big overlanding trip you’ve had in the back of your head for years?

The places I want to go won’t let me in. I am sick and tired of all of this winning.
I have a suspicion I might not even venture out of the state, although I’ll at least get close to the border, maybe ID or OR.

Nope. My grand canyon adventure got decimated but I’ll be visiting the Lane Motor Museum soon. Maybe find some time for an overnight trip or two but not sure.
You seem to have at least an itch to get out of here for a while, as do I. Except I don’t have nearly the resources to do anything. Bike trips sound fun. Keep us updated.

Was gonna road trip to Texas, rather now I’m going to the family hunting/fish camp way in the middle of nowhere N orth Ontario . The only contact from the outside world is a faint AM radio station signal , not way to connect to any one.

First time in three years I’ve had a vehicle I’d consider reliable enough to head up to BC, and wouldn’t you know...
Might not be a bad year to jump on a ferry and go island hopping.

We were supposed to have gone to Disney World a while back. I thought the Portland (Maine) airshow would be cool. Thats out too. At this point, I just want to go to a cabin in the middle of nowhere but the kids wouldn’t appreciate that level of nothing.

Ah, I'm sorry. Grand Canyon is on my list, have you been before?
It’s nice. The last year—two if I’m being honest—I didn’t trust the Miata to go too far from home. So... I just didn’t travel much. I’m trying to make up for lost time.

I live in Georgia. The westernmost point i have been is around where the Florida panhandle is. I’ve only left the southeast once for a three night trip to New York City. So, yes, I need to travel or else lose my sanity. The Grand Canyon road trip would have been amazing but it cannot happen now. Ugh, that’s what kept me going through my senior year in high school, only to find out it couldn’t happen because of a stupid virus.
Go for it. You only live once and not much of that time is spent with the means and time to travel. Do it while you can and aren’t too wrapped up in life.

Island hopping would be great on a bike. Not so much in a car stuck in line with all the other drones. People are going a little stir crazy, and I think there will be a lot of local holiday seekers this year.
I am halfway thinking of maybe a few hundred mile back roads road trip in the fintail in late summer/early fall.

Oh, thanks for the laugh. I’m in Texas, so we’re boned. Other states don’t even want us. I don’t feel comfortable traveling right now anyway for the same reasons, but yeah. On top of that, no one’s hiring and freelance budgets are decimated, so I’m having to be as cheap as possible regardless. The closest I’ll get is a camping trip next weekend to Enchanted Rock, close to Austin.

That’s fair. But the longer social distancing, and various business closures continues, the more of a beating my mental and physical health takes. I’ve been trying to weigh that with pandemic best practice protocols, but at this point... It's time to enjoy myself. I can't even begin to imagine how hard this is for people with more serious depression issues.

Just taking things week by week now though for planning.

I’ve been planning the Texas trip since last fall, so it’s all that planned written off. I’m not arguing going north, it’s a old cabin but it’s a home away from home. When I’m up there in that area it’s just small game birds & animals in season. No big game yet. We still carry large rifles for protection, you can’t call police up there when a black bear is running at you. It’s you leave on a stretcher, or you shoot the bear.

I’d love to take a trip, especially with a lot of people still worried about venturing out. You bet I’d be willing to wear a mask if it means Disney World without crowds (and hopefully lower prices). The best time to travel would’ve been in April, but I had school still.
I have something called a full-time job I just started, as well as a big blue child called a car I decided to put myself through, so no vacations quite yet. I’m really wanting to hit one of the local casinos in AL or NC shortly after my birthday. That’ll be a good excuse to travel. I went to Dallas, TX in March, and it was a great trip. I never do vacations, but that was a good one.

Our June Icelan d/Norway trip got ruined and we have no travel plans through the end of the year. Since the US has decided to pack it in, we’l l probably just stay home. Have no interest getting out and abou t with people that won’t even take basic precautions ( TX). Will t ry again for Iceland/Norway next year hopefully . Actually considered buying an RV or camper so we could travel in the stat es, but on e nice RV ( or trailer even) pays for many overseas trips ...

We have two trips planned. We’re currently self-quarantining to be sure we’re clean for a trip to my in-laws. That will be a week of being shut in someone else’s house instead of our own. We might get a day of fishing on the bay. That would be good.
The second trip will only happen if my daughter’s college decides to have classes on campus.

It’s bad. Things never improved to a safe point before they started reopening things, and then our “die for the economy” state government was like, “lol wear a mask if you want, we’re not enforcing it if you don’t
” and celebrated the reckless idiots who violated their own lockdown orders. Even they’re finally getting the hint, though, as they’re now
mandating masks in public. You know it’s bad when the same idiots who made listening to scientists
and exercising
common sense into
political issues
are having to reconsider their stance, I guess, but it shouldn’t have ever gotten to this point.
We keep hitting record spikes in cases. Some states are mandating a 14-day quarantine if we travel in from Texas. It’s bad. It’s super bad.

This is not about you. There are millions of people who are having a rough time right now. The selfish thing to do is make it about you. We all have a social responsibility... think of it this way. The longer people do NOT practice social distancing and more people get infected, the more it will continue to spread. People losing their patience just because “I can’t get a haircut” and then going out and partying, socializing, not wearing masks... they’re being completely irresponsible. I’m not saying you are one of them. Be considerate of everyone else.
The evidence is pretty damning... look at Florida, Texas, Arizona right now. I know it’s annoying but at the same time there are places in the world where people have been in lockdown for way longer than us, like Kashmir. We’re so fucking spoiled. Take this as a time to re-evaluate yourself and just try to be grateful for what you have and the people you surround yourself with.
If you need mental health resources I made a post recently with a list of them.

I’d hate to be stuck out of country or end up quarantined elsewhere unless there was amazing flexibility and entertainment to keep you occupied. With the way things are going we are going to end up on a lot of countries no go list for probably a year it seems.
WBDR for a few days in a couple weeks, going to be interesting with the whole social distancing, hopefully we find big sites to spread out.

I’m probably taking a week off in August, but am not booking anything until it gets closer, don’t want to commit to any destination or make any firm plans until I know I’ll be allowed to go and that they’ll be things to do there.
Did take a short weekend trip up to the Lake Erie area of PA already (kind of shitty, wouldn’t recommend) , and am maybe going to see a band in southern Virginia next weekend, but am not making any firm plans further out than 24 hours in advance.

“Losing patience due to missing a haircut”
Yeah, you clearly aren’t understanding what I’m saying.
“we all have a social responsibility”
That’s word for word what was screamed at me from a window a month back on a delivery . Some lady preaching about how I had to quit working because I was spreading disease. I asked if she would cover my wages. She said I was selfish.
I firmly believe that covid is a very real issue, but the number of self-righteous virtue signaling assholes that have popped up in the viruses wake is almost mind-blowing. I’m not saying you are one of them, but be considerate of everyone else. Be aware that life doesn’t stand still, giving us a break from all other problems w hile we deal with this. Problems that predated the virus, problems that in many cases eclipse the virus.
This has gotten pretty off-topic, so I'm just going to reccomend a few days out camping. It's a great way to clear the head, re-evaluate yourself, and best of all... If you do it right you'll be about as socially distant as one can get!

Washington Backroad Discovery Route
We u sually go on a nice drive to central washington in sports cars and a bit of WABDR in SUV’s every summer it seems. Definitely canceling the central washington portion with how bad things are over there, but WABDR is usually pretty empty especially the longer jaunts so seems like a good way to get outdoors.

Two week moto trip at the end of the month. All back roads and camping, with masks and hand sanitizer for essential stops. 90% solo.
I could argue that because I'm essential and never stopped working, it's actually safer for me to take this trip than not. Work requires me to talk to clients and colleagues, and get in and out of a bunch of clients' vehicles every day.
