One has to wonder if all this sanitizing isn’t creating any new superbugs. Not that we should stop, but that possibility is always out there.

It’s been a possibility long before rona. Imo it’s fine and good to use it when there isn’t access to hand washing or hand washing won’t do the trick. When it gets used in lieu of hand washing when hand washing is available is when trouble starts (I think)

I started worrying about this 20 years ago when people started with the Purell and wipes, etc. There’s an old comedian bit (don’t remember who) that made fun of people wiping hands/surfaces/seats/etc anywhere they went so they wouldn’t come in contact with germs - “Isn’t that what skin is for?”
I don’t think we’ll create a new superbug as much as we aren’t allowing our natural immunity systems to develop on their own.

It could. It can also result in people having worse immune system and possibly increased prevalence of allergies. There have also been products brought to market with harmful ingredients in them such as methanol.
Much better off properly washing your hands using soap and water as it mechanically removes germs.

eh....not something i worry about too much
too busy shaking me head at the cautious folk at the supermarket
the shop has a little table with spray bottles of sanitizer everyone dutifully uses to clean their carts before use and then they go round the shop happy as pigs in shit coz we safe now so when they done they just park up and go home
who sanitizes the spray bottles i ask you?
anyhoo...i dont bother spraying down my cart....i just spray my hands when i leave the shop

As long as our kids are still picking their noses and trying to eat food without washing their hands i think well be fine.

Well, the virus has mutated, they say so far it doesn’t seem to be more deadly if you get it but they believe it is easier to contract now... I have wondered about that too, I think antibiotics and infection are the issues I hear about most.

I used to work for a guy who was our county health board chairman, and he was a major germaphobe. I remember going out to lunch with him once where we entered and walked out of 6 restaurants that didn’t have clean enough bathrooms for him, until he found one acceptable. The guy had multiple hand sanitizer bottles in every cubby in his car and was washing his hands constantly all day, but he was also sick, pretty much all the time. Would get the flu in the summer and usually a head cold every other month. We all used to joke that his life was too sterile and he had no immunities, but it could very well have been just him recognizing his situation and trying to control things as best he could.
I’ve heard he’s being going pretty crazy during the covid-19 thing.
