So I was researching weather the E93 convertible can have a roof rack installed on it, for reasons... I found out the answer to that question was no. But I did learn that the first gen Boxster had a factor option roof rack that still allowed the top to opened and closed.
If it’s easy to remove when not in use I think it’s a great idea.

Depending on what you are tying to mount maybe take a look at the sea sucker mounts.

Roof rack install at 6:08.
The prob lem is, when it rains and the roof is down, you have to take the whole thing off to put the roof up. Doh.

I am so glad I didn't know that was a thing until now.

You can’t open or close the top once it’s installed. You have to pick your poison before you attach it.

There was a Votex roof rack for the Cabriolet though..

I never knew I wanted a Porsche winter beater but here we are. Holy hell that green

I like that

It was an exceedingly rare option

I’ve used the windshield and roll bar as a roof rack. But you can fit most anything in the back seat. I’ve had 3 bikes in there

I was going to ask if it required drilling. I guess in this case he not only ruined his seats but it’s probably rusting by now.

That’s a bummer.

Good.
Supposedly you could get a Ford Ecosport with a similarly ugly door mounted spare, except that door was s ide hinged to allow for it.

Using the A pillar to support any kind of load makes me feel uneasy. Doesn’t seem particularly sturdy, given how much it rattles when windy.
I mean, there’s a reason they had to add the hoop...

I don’t consider my Boxster a beater, but beater winter wheels w/snow tires are awesome. I t’s surprisingly good in the snow, and much much fun!

Making impractical cars practical is my fetish. I want to install a rack of some sort on my miata, would be useful for trips.

Yeah, but for certain uses it came in handy. I can’t find the pic, but t here was a guy at Lime Rock that brought his track tires mounted up top. Took him ~20 min to remove once he got there, and prob 30 m in to put back on once the weekend was over.

Meant to add this pic...it also fits over the earlier model of the 986 hardtop.

Not sure about the A pillar, but the body attachment was already prepped.
Seems wrong that it didn’t have a way to put the roof up whilst in-situ.

One of my dreams is to built a tube framed Miata Ute. Chop off all the read body work and build a full Tube frame, and aluminum sheet metal bed. Should at least be able to get it to 4x6ft. And I’d like it to be at least 2ft deep.
