This is a child I do priva te math coaching with and she lives about five doors down. She wanted to install elastic with buttons into some new breeches she’d ordered on Amazon. She’d also ordered the elastic with button holes in it. I asked her if she’d like some help, and she enthusiastically said she would, so we had a sewing club this morning. Priceless.

Nice!

My wife wanted to sew us up a few things this last weekend so I pulled the machine out of the basement. The bobbin winder didn’t work so I spent Saturday taking the machine apart and fixing it. It needed a new o-ring on the gear that spins the winder which I didn’t have but a box of rubber grommets got me one close enough to work.

The machine had to come apart and go back together several times for adjustments or to fix  things I broke the last time I was in there...

My mom and her mom were great at sewing. They’d do all kinds of stuff. I regret never asking to be shown how.

I’ll very much admit my first response was ‘we bought this machine 15 years ago - you want a new one?’ Then found out sewing machines were sold out absolutely everywhere and then said ‘I’ll see if I can fix it’

Awesome. Here in the Hot Zone,  I’m proudly wearing the mask you made me.

Good job! I learned to hand sew when I was a kid, but I never really learned much about the machines. I was dissuaded when a girl in our school sewed her thumb to something in the home economics class. It’s one skill I wish my mom had passed along.

I’ve been able to improve my sewing skills by sewing masks. My sewing I like to think of as fabricating using a sewing machine.

Hand wash so that the wire doesn’t get worn out and it’s good to trim one of the disposable blue surgical masks and tuck the filter inside between the two layers of the cloth mask. Blue side out.

My mom didn’t want to let me use her machine, but once I began, I was in.

It’s pretty hard to breathe through it as it is. I’m playing an outdoor gig on Saturday, and I’ll wear my N94 to go to that one. Of course, You can’t wear a mask while you play.

That’s awesome, my wife is going to do the same as the stock we had was running low.

I used to be a decent seamstress as my mother was a big quilter so I helped a lot growing up and used to be well versed with cutting patterns and sewing but it’s been a while since I touched either.

It’s a skill I wish I had  maintained

Is your N95 mask valved? The ones with the flapper valves do not filter cooties coming out, defeating the greater purpose of wearing masks. Takes some time to get used to having the mask on.

Not valved.

My 1080 is not putting out the points it was putting out when I first set it up. I was initially getting 1.5M PPD and now I’m only getting 1.1 or 1.2M. Could the procs on the T7400 be slowing me down? Am I getting weak work units?

Are you folding on the CPU too? That actually seems to decrease the daily points total.

There is also definitely some luck in it with some days being better than others in the quality of work units. 2-300k is a fairly normal swing from day to day in a card that sized too.

No CPU slots. So it sounds like my mine is performing as it should?

I think so, unless it stays low for long. You install the latest Nvidia driver and not the one MSFT did right?
