These are all military or official government flights. Aside from the normal clusters of training flights you usually see in OK and AL/FL, there’s just a lot of activity. Even the Buffs from Barksdale are up today.

Edit: Ooh, and a couple of F-35s over England.

As for HK, we don’t care about political freedoms any more. There was a time when we supported that sort of thing.

That was a crazy story - hand-to-hand combat with rocks and sticks!
It’s no coincidence that they’re
using this time (global
pandemic, racial unrest) under this president to make these moves.

There are some who argue that the Chinese created this pandemic specifically to destabilize the world.

I like Skyfire77's explanation that it’s the first of the month so everybody has new budget money to go flying with.

Odd; the new DoD fiscal year doesn’t start until Oct. 1. Is there another reason why they would star using jet fuel today?

It’s the first of the month, and first day in the 3rd quarter. Everybody’s monthly and quarterly budgets reset and they have the ability to spend $$$ on fuel and whatnot now.

Interesting. I saw an F35 fly over yesterday and said out loud: well there’s something you don’t see every day in the Bay Area.
Must be preparing to announce the war with the aliens in time for Independence Day :)

I just googled it, and evidently, it costs $44,000 per hour to fly an F-35

This is pretty common on the 1st of the month, especially when the weather’s nice. That sounds facetious but it’s true.
ETA: I see Skyfire77 said the same thing and explained why. It’s also the start of the 3rd quarter, which is the
4th quarter of the government’s
fiscal year. July 1 and October 1 are the two best days of the year to burn a lot of expensive gas.

If you click the U button at the top, it will show only military/government flights. You will see a lot of USAF T-6 Texan II primary trainers, particularly in OK and FL.

Not sure why the Nightwatch are so expensive per hour, they’re basically 747s, at least the flying bits. Then again, they can carry up to 108 crew, soI’d assume there’s a lot of ancillary costs the other planes don’t face.
