Rear is sitting funny from picking it up and setting back down on the blocks

Having been without-project for a while, I was getting withdrawals from wrenching (not really, I’ve just been working on other peoples’ stuff which I don’t really share since it’s not my business to & non-car projects).

I figured it was time to get the factory-fill oils out of the Abarth (just over 1000 miles on it at this point). Th ere is no service interval on the transmission or diff which is bad for someone planning on keeping a car longer than the warranty period. Based on the amount of break-in metal in the oil from these (and on the magnetic drain plugs) this was well worthwhile.

I also changed the engine oil and filter, which is uneventful but again it’s good to get the break-in fill out of there instead of running it for the absurdly-long specified interval.

Amsoil meeting all the requisite specs was put in the transmission and differential, the engine got Pennzoil also meeting required specs and a fresh Wix filter. Nothing too exciting, but it’s the first work I’ve done on this car.

Nice! I’ve been putting off thinking about the automatic transmission fluid in my car and I’ve never even thought about the diff. Not sure if I want to try doing any of it myself.

Blue Abarth is a good Fiata. Those have a manual top right? Is it really easy to just flip it down at a moment’s notice?

It bothers me that your towels aren't arranged in a repeating pattern based on color

Who is Roy, how does your wife know him, and why is he hiding in your closet?

The key to a harmonious marriage is not asking too many questions. All I know is that my clothes stay off the floor and organized. My wife is smiling, and I didn’t have to do anything. After a while that’s enough.

Very good. I think I’m going to do the trans fluid in my truck soon. It’s on ly been 20 k miles, but it is an aging 4L65E with 150k miles on it. It has never given me any trouble, but it seems prudent to maintain it at more frequent intervals.

Autos can be tricky since they hold so much more than the pan, but a pan drain & fill is pretty easy and worthwhile - even a partial changeout of fluid make a difference to transmission lifespan. Diffs tend to be easy (if stinky) as long as you can get the fill plug out :)

Yes it’s a manual top, takes about a second to flip up or put back down. I have several times put it down after getting off the highway from a long trip while stopped at a light. Couldn’t be easier.

Those are the dirty ones that haven’t been taken down after hanging up to dry; they’re in the order I used them haha

It can’t hurt; if you go too long you’re out a transmission; if you change to o short you’re out the cost of fluid and a little time. I know which side I err towards :)

That’s good that it’s not too hard. I’m going to do a partial ATF drain as to not shock the system.

I sat in one at an auto show and I lov ed everything about it. I liked how you could just reach back and pull the top up or down.

I want to replace the filling of standard oreos with cookies & cream ice cream. Is that too much..?

I wish this was just the ethic and know-how of every car buyer. Like if cars weren’t appliances to the majority of people, that’d be my utopia.

Sick Abarth, good maintenance

Thanks!

It only takes seeing so many smashed smartphones to realize that most people genuinely can’t be bothered to take care of stuff. The same mentality rolls over into cars unfortunately.
