Used to really like their stuff, but not so much recently. Then they added the “gold membership”... wah wah wah. I have a few prints from them but I have received two that were really badly done (and they are not cheap).... now this...Bye clowns (I’ma be saying this a lot I feel like)
The 2/3 prints I have aren’t branded and the 3 one is but has been “framed out” looks like I’m ahead of the game.

Former Petrolicious employee (and excellent car photographer) Ted Gushue’s Instagram story gives some context (and criticism, although I’d suggest he didn’t go far enough).
In short, I unfollowed Petrolicious and followed Ted instead.

I love to read defense stuff but d on’t read the comment section of “War Zone” in Drive on anything even remotely related to politics- policies, procedures,funding, Dear Leader’s comments on anything military related, russia or NATO for example. Absolute Shitshow that would put a fox news comment section to same.
The more technical the article is the more genuinely informative and better the quality of comments.

Depends where you’re at. When I go to hot rod and custom motorcycle cycle stuff in South Phoenix and downtown, there’s a lot of diversity. However, I went to two hot rod shops yesterday looking for an air filter and it was all white guys complaining about BLM. There was a big car show in LA last weekend showing support.

I’ve actually seen some really creative General Lee’s since the Forza ban. My favorite was a weathered look where there was a non faded rectangle on the roof with splotches of sticker residue and very small scraps of a faded flag left over. It was a really convincing job that a flag had been on the roof for a long time but had been removed. I’m enjoying seeing how people are approaching replicating an iconic movie car while removing the racist symbolism found on it.

Was reading the “apology” they sent out - and the related comments on instagram (sigh). So glad the oppo community is far more civilized and forward thinking.
At least half the comments are basically saying “I don’t see any problem with what you posted”...so I’m guessing now THEY should be pissed off with the apology (as half baked as it is)?

Hey! This is something The Drive is actively trying to change . We’re also going to start appearing in the comment section more often and try to engage with users more often. We know it’s bad and it chases a lot of people off the site, which is NOT how things should be.
Somehow they trusted me with a banhammer as of last week , so if you see something really egregious, warn it. DM me on the Twitters if you see something that’s really beyond the pale or notice a pattern of awful, demeaning, the-bad-kind-of- “ ist” posts from anyone . We’re paying more attention now and want things to be more welcoming for all.
On that note, mind sharing the link to the parsh scam story? Is it recent or was it a while ago?

I will say that they don’t have the best reputation among some of the people who’ve worked with them before, so that’s a thing, too.
It’s all pretty bad because higher-ups like this absolutely have an impact on which authors get hired, which stories get green-lit and who gets paid what they’re worth. Finding good automotive outlets to write for is like navigating a mine field.

That trolling claim doesn’t seem accurate, though. Maybe Ted didn’t pay close attention to Behnia’s Facebook, but Afshin sharing a hit piece from an alt-right clickbait site before these posts doesn’t check out as “just trolling,” though. Via one of the photogs who apparently had access to Behnia’s friends only FB posts:
So, Behnia posted a half-apology on Instagram, which reads more like he’s sorry he got caught.
I believe that people can change and do better, but this doesn’t really own up to the full history of some pretty toxic beliefs that people are uncovering.

I really liked Petrolicous. I thought the videos were beautifully shot and their soundtracks were great. I didn’t really care for some of their stuff, too many Porsche videos and the owners were usually douchebags (especially if it was a Singer Porsche), but when they spotlighted regular people or families, it was awesome.
It saddens me that too many in the the car scene are assholes.

Oh yeah! I remember that. That blew up on Rennlist before the blogs dug into it.
Robb’s piece was great and he’s an excellent dude for wading into it. There were definitely a few posters who got shown the door for misbehaving in that comment section, though. I looked the next day and the worst posts had gone missing.
I’ll keep an eye out for you if you’re around
