It went the SHIT route but it actually... looks good?

Wasnt the Venza originally pitched as the crossover for active older empty nesters? Unless they’ve got a new strategy to target a different demo, not a good time for that. Their old market is either getting killed off by covid, or staying at home to hide from covid.

I don’t know about good, but a nice color, and definitely better in a dark color (to hide the front end plastic) , and better looking than the over-wrought RX.
That screen seems really intrusive though, I really prefer ICE to be integrated a little better. I know tablets seem new and hip to the olds, but a jutting tablet like that is already very 2012 to my eyes anyway.

I definitely remember the Venza aimed at the “active boomer” crowd, with commercials that reflected it.

They should have put the more powerful hybrid from the Highlander/sienna (around 240Hp) in this one to differentiate it more from the RaV4 but I guess thay 40MPG magic number had to be achieved
Seems there’s not a significant difference in space between the 2 end of the day.

Targetin g an inherently family oriented vehicle to people who don’t have families anymore always seemed like an odd move to me.
Like making a California king sized plastic race car bed. Wait, that would probably sell, actually.

I suspect that demographic also already embraces existing little CUVs - around my area anyway, RAV4 and CRV are typical “little old lady” cars. I guess it will kind of slot in between the RAV4 and Highlander?
Yeah, that bed doesn’t sound like a bad idea, a few here would probably go for it.

The name is indeed a bit of a weird choice. It’s more of a RAV4 “luxury coupe” now than a family hauler. Should’ve kept the Harrier name.

I always liked the Venzas for some reason. Th ey just fit their niche perfectly. It was a tall wagon for boomers. Nothing more, nothing less. Proportions were good, styling wasn’t too far in any direction, but just this side of boring.
And tell me that’s not a Q8/MDX roofline:

I always kinda liked the old car’s body shape, but then I like the CT250's outline as well.

You hit the nail on the head. The original Venza was a very family oriented vehicle. It fits up to 5 comfortably and has a nice amount of room behind the rear seat. I am a Xenial, not a boomer, and it is perfect for my family (2013 AWD Limited in Magnetic Metallic). It has a roomy rear seat (good for keeping teen/tweens from complaining about hip space) , and it will carry 5 adults to a business lunch comfortably . ( We also have a Sienna, which gets the most use, and a 3rd gen 4Runner which doesn’t get much use after adding the Venza.) Targeting boomers is probably why they didn’t sell enough and discontinued it in 2015. While I think the 40 MPG hybrid is good for the what the target demo should be (families) , a new Venza XSE with 300 HP 2GR would not be bad to drive, especially with a TRD or GR tuned suspension option.

You should also know that Venza sounds very close to the Japanese word for toilet seat according to my wife.

It’s being resurrected to counter the Passport, Edge, Murano, Grand Cherokee, Blazer, Atlas Cross Sport, etc. etc. The two-row midsizer is back in a big way.
