Freshly bored 0.020" over, crank polished, new pistons put on reconditioned rods. Assembled last night. Need to order a bunch of seals and stuff, mount oil pump and vacuum pump, then seal it up.
I didn’t think t he head didn’t really need anything but was very gross. I had the shop clean the 31+ year old oil off and install new valve seals. However, since mice had lived in the intake, the intake valves had become pitted fron urine and such and needed replaced.
Also dropped a crankshaft on my cell phone. Oops.
To do: recondition injection pump (seals and clean it up), rebuild or replace injectors, finish assembly. Get it to the car, mount transmission (I have a few options to choose f rom). Then, work on the chassis. It needs more cleaning, a very small amount of rust cleaned up, new hood installed, and fuel and brake lines evaluated.

Nice, turbo 1.6 or NA?
I’ve been so spoiled by TDIs I cant go back. I have a mk2 I picked up, had a 1.6 NA in it. Thinking I’m going to put a BEW PD in it instead. Just to be different... and I have 3 of them laying around for some reason.
I do have a 1Z block bored over I could build, but I kinda want to do the PD swap instead. Seen enough of the 1Z/AHUs swapped in older chassis, kinda bored with it. Too obvious a choice now.

NA. It’s gonna be slow. I had a Mk2 1.6 TD for a while, it didn’t seem horrifyingly slow. I have a few ABAs laying around, so if I was smart I would have just dropped one of those in there. My Golf is fast ish (not really), so whatever. I kind of want to see how it feels to get 45ish MPG.
PD would be very cool. Lots of wiring, though. The TDIs and mTDIs are thoroughly sorted in the aftermarket. I get the appeals, but if you want the car to be fast, there’s no real reason to stick to diesel IMO. 1.8t swaps are just as easy.
I know you obviously like diesel, but if you want to get complicated (since frame rail modification is necessary), an 07K swapped Rabbit would be an absolute weapon.
If I get tired of this, I can pull it out and have a very clean shell to drop a VR6 or whatever into. I think it would be funny to drop an NA 1.6 into a blown up Mk7...

P.S. This is why you buy phone cases.

Meh. $50 ebay phones. $5 cases with built in screen covers make it hard to use. I can't find cases for 5/SE anywhere. I honestly do not care.

That’s only half an engine. Where’s the other bank of cylinders?
