When last we left off, I had the underfelt in. Well, I spent a couple hours/ night this week after work on the car. Yesterday, I managed to finish getting the carpet in.
Unfortunately, I made a minor mistake and only ran one speaker wire pair per seat. Fortunately, getting the other pair in for each seat was simple enough.
What’s not simple enough?
This steering column bolt. Yeah, that was going back in. So I went this morning to Home Depot and picked up a couple of bolts that did the trick.
I started on it around 11am after walking back from HD and wrapped up around 5pm. I would say in all, it was about 25-30 hours of work to replace the carpets and clear everything. I went so far as cleaning out the air ducts, getting dust out from behind the dash, repairing a little rust, moving my amp, hiding the wiring, cleaning up some wiring, reinforcing part of the dash, painting the dash/components, replacing old foam, and reinforcing anything that might squeak or rattle.
It has come back together nicely. The dash repair doesn’t look great. It’s a little less noticeable but still there. I will probably repaint the center console delete piece - since it doesn’t match. I’ll also likely replace the cheap ass head unit.
I took it for a quick ride. It’s SO nice to not have the entire dash rattle like crazy. The only squeaks now come from the soft top flexing with the car. There are some weird sounds coming from the engine bay (sounds almost like a turbo) and there’s a belt squeak at idle that weren’t there when I started.
I need to find a kick panel (the piece between the driver’s knees) and to redo my door cards next. No, I will not be adding cup holders.

That looks amazing and now you make me want to take out the seats in my car to vacuum it.

Thanks! You should do it. The Miata only requires 4 bolts to remove the seats, lol.

My car has airbags in the seat so I’m sure it’s more involved than that but still it tempts me.

Wow! Do you keep looking at it like, “FUCK that looks great!” That is what I like to do after a big project.

C’mon, those blank panels are crying out for a fancy gimbal cupholder. If only so you can show off your skills on the touge...

Its probably 4 bolts + a plug in the wiring harness to disconnect. When I replaced the seats in the 850 there was nothing because the airbags are self contained and mechanically triggered.
