"Highlander-Datsuns are Forever" (jamesbowland)

There has never been any kind of assumption an 240z -280 z Nissan’s were safe cars. They are made out of some of the thinnest , crappiest metal available in Japan in the 1970's. The entire point was light weight and simplicity to improve performance.

So they die of heart attacks in their mid-50's like men used to?
**This is how my grandfather went and my father had a serious stroke at 60 so this comment may be my way of dealing with a fairly real genetic sketchy cardio-vascular system **

This.
My maternal grandfather passed away in his late 50s before I was born. His passing had more to do with a history of alcohol and tobacco consumption
and a career as a drill sergeant
, though
.

My mom’s dad died of a heart attack in his 50s, and my dad had a pulmonary embolism a few years ago, so I’m right there with you in dubious genetics land.

Good for rollover accidents, not so much if you are hit or hit something else.

I try to take care of myself but have always had borderline high blood pressure. I should do better, but I am also kind of lazy.

Sorry, that’s too young in my opinion. We really don’t have heart disease in my family so it’s never come up .

That is a similar story to mine - my paternal grandfather died at 55 a few years before I was born, he was an angry man, a smoker and an alcoholic (which are all traits my father got from him).
I barely drink and have never smoked so I’m ahead of the game but should eat a bit better and work out more too.

Smoking and drinking heavily have a lot to do with it but my grandmother lived 40 years longer than my grandfather and my mothers father has had more heart surgeries than he could keep track of dating back to his mid-50s. They were also both in their 50' s circa 1980 and had gone to war.

Well it bolts in behind the seat so I figure since it ties into there across the middle it might help with side impact.

The drill was probably the least stressful part for him. All the drill staff I know take such joy in their work.

The fear in the background of my life is real here. I tried to ignore it when in my 20's but now in my mid-30's I try much harder to take care of myself. I work a desk job so my activity isn’t awesome but I don’t smoke and barely drink so that helps.

I feel you. I take after my mother’s side of the family, which has a long history of the menfolk dying young of heart attacks. Of course it also has a long history of the menfolk being fat, having high stress jobs and smoking like chimneys, so I may be in with half a chance. Regular ECGs are part of my life since I turned 40 though.
My sisters, on the other hand, take after my fathers side, which has a long history of the womenfolk being healthy as horses well into their nineties then dying peacefully in their sleep. Bitches.

I’m in California, should be fine after all the coatings we used. If I brought it back to Hawaii with me... I might get nervous. I may have to sell it, we will see, I work on shows and my whole industry is shut down, my medical is based on hours so I have until October and then I have to pay a cobra fee to keep medical.

That sucks. I went through that two years ago when I went independent...healthcare costs were crazy. One of our fall shows in Vegas was going to go on as planned , but they just cancelled it and postponed until March....virtual only again in Sept, same as this past M arch (telecom show that was cancelled a day before I was supposed to fly out).
My car spent all of its years in the northeast as a DD before I got it....it was already a lost cause.
Good luck!

Avoid the gym! (T hat’s really where mine happened. A piece of plaque broke off from somewhere, perhaps due to exertion, and was just floating around until it got to a place that had a bit of narrowing. B oom, went from perfectly fine to a 100% blockage in an instant.)

I’m fortunate to take after my mother’s maternal line. G randma lived to 82; great-grandma lived to 92. My own heart seems to be in good shape (knocks on wood) and I exercise it regularly. My step-grandfather died of leukemia after years of smoking, so that kept me away from the cancer sticks. I think grandma could have lived for another 10 years if she hadn’t smoked for all those years. My dad was an alcoholic on top of his other problems, so that keeps me from drinking. My wife swears I’m going to live forever. People in her family tend to drop dead of heart attacks in their fifties or early sixties, so she’s always making jokes about haunting me after she’s gone.

Women in my family seem to live forever. My fathers mother just passed last year at 93 and she had a 2 pack a day habit until she was 75 and got emphysema. My mothers mother passed about a year and a half ago at 91 outliving 3 husbands.
Men less so though - fathers father died at 55, father had a major stroke at 60 and my mothers father had a valve replacement in the 80's and countless other heart operations until he passed about 2 years ago.
They of course all smoked and drank heavily which has kept me 100% away from the cancer sticks like you and I barely drink.

This one is for sale locally....pretty much what my car looked like in 1981 , except those wheels, not a fan. By 88 when I got it, it already had zero finish, and some holes.
