For anyone else who doesnt want to sign up for the Fresno bee and since gramps didn't share a content again.
The Advanced Clean Truck regulation will require manufacturers to begin selling zero-emission models in 2024 and to make those vehicles an increasing share of their sales each year until 2045, when all trucks sold in the state must be clean. The rule covers a range of trucks, including heavy-duty pickups, delivery vans, box trucks and big rigs.

Doesn’t California have the worst Power grid in the US outside of islands that get hit by Hurricanes?

So diesel isnt racist, really, but they’re talking about distribution centers being nearer to low income communities.
Regardless , if we can get our battery tech together, electric trucks are probably a better option overall.

The disadvantages that minorities have in society mean many can only afford to live in the low-value areas around highways and ports. Diesel isnt racist, OP was just being sensationalist. The gist is that minorities are disproportionately affected by diesel pollution due to racism.

Because ports, warehouses, and freeways tend to be surrounded by poor communities. Poor communities are dis proportionately made up of people of color. So pollution disproportionately affects communities of color.

Diesel emissions disproportionately affect minorities because they are more likely to live in dense urban settings and/or near industry. They are also more likely to be in blue collar jobs in or around diesel equipment. So eliminating those emissions will provide the greatest benefit people of color.
Calling it racism may be a bit much (though that’s not what was said in the quote)
, but there is a racial component here, especially because there’s almost certainly racism involved in the policies, zoning, and income disparities that lead to the increased diesel exposure in the first place.

... they’re talking about distribution centers being nearer to low income communities.
That kind of goes hand in hand to me. No one really wants to live next to a distribution center and those houses are priced accordingly.

Nope, it went right to the full story. And I assure you I do not subscribe to the Fresno Bee, nor do I know any sort of internet trickery that can get around pay walls.

Most people would, actually. Just depends on where in Texas they want to move to.

The writer of the article is making sensationalist conclusions. Their argument is that since minorities are disproportionately living in low income areas around ports and factories they are more subject to the pollution from the trucks that frequent those ports and factories. Therefore eliminating the pollution is some kind of win for racial justice without having to address the actual issues that lead to minorities being more present in those areas to begin with. It’s a stupid argument by the author and CARb board people.

It seems like a shameless grab for political clout. I can fight RACIAL INJUSTICE and POLLUTION at the same time!
Obviously poor people should have equal access to health hazards.

The person quoted is alluding to the high use of diesel trucks in and around minority communities, thus subjecting them to higher levels of pollution.

Incognito tab and Fresno no longer knew my feelings about it’s city. I think this is the most relevant paragraph for anyone stuck on the the wrong side of the wall.
“This rule advances racial justice,” she said. “In a time when we are talking about that every day, we need to recognize that these types of heavy-duty vehicles disproportionately impact communities of color, communities around ports and this rule is going to give the relief.”

Did you actually read the article? That quite is from a community organizer who led a campaign to document how many trucks went through their neighborhood , not the author.

On that basis, it’s really more about making society more equitable between the wealthy and the poor.
