As most of y’all know, I purchased a 2019 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack SE with the Driver Assistance & Appearance Package. This vehicle replaced my 2012 Toyota RAV4 Limited.

The Alltrack is important because it’s the first vehicle I’m paying for, the first vehicle I’m paying insurance for, the first vehicle I’m maintaining, and the first vehicle I have my name on. Upon purchase, my mom ended up being the primary signer, but this is MY car. My real first car.

The car search seriously started about a year before graduation . I knew I’d have around $30,000 left  in my college fund, as well as a full time job to help me out through Summer 2020. I   bounced between dozens of vehicles, with the 2016-2018 Toyota Tacoma Limited in Blazing Blue Pearl as my most serious choice. If it came in at least blue or red, had a keyless access system with push button start, heated seats, and a sunroof, it was up for consideration. I was thinking about getting a used car by August or September of this year.

Then, the coronavirus car deals came to be. 0%, deferred payments, and discounts, oh my! Along with the fact my parents prefer new vehicles to used ones, everything seemed to work in my favor. I noticed one new car that seemed to have incredible deals: the Volkswagen Golf Alltrack. I’d never thought about the Alltrack or the features it had, assuming it was a boring car compared to something like an Outback.

But, my local dealer had a very nice Great Falls Green one for over $8,000 off sticker. And that’s where the story starts in early April.

I vividly remember Motor Trend reviewing a New Beetle APR tuned in the early 2000's. I remember it was one of the first AWD Beetles, 993 wheels and brakes, and 500hp. I wish I could find the article, but the car was BONKERS!

EDIT: I found the review!

I had a Mk7 Golf wagon and loved it, you’re going to love this, too. Does the DAP not come with the radar cruise, though?  I don’t see the front sensor.

It is built into the logo now, that’s why it has a smooth surface. If you can feel the actual logo it doesn’t have radar/safety. If it is smooth it does, I learned that working at VW.

Awesome find! I remember reading an article in C&D about one of their tuner shootouts that had a 996 Ge mballa (I think?)  that was bonkers fast for the time.

No adaptive cruise. The appearance package adds the wheels, the lights, an auto dimming rear view mirror, and some more safety tech, mainly the self-park.

Basically, I have an SEL without the seats, a full power seat, built in navigation, Fender, auto AC, and adaptive cruise.

I’m the only driver, the seats are comfy, I use Apple Maps via CarPlay , I make the Panasonic speakers go boom boom, I’m the only person in the car & usually keep it cranked up, and I don’t do much Interstate driving anymore. If I could choose any Alltrack, SEL with Marrakech Brown leather, but I’d probably  still have the RAV4 if availability was wide.
