EDIT - Quick repost for the morning crew!

Hey, you! Do you like vehicles? Do you like hearing people talk about vehicles? Do you like watching yutzes yammer on about vehicles while walking through an overgrown salvage yard?

Well, do I have a video for you! Join me for an expected walk through the salvage yard behind the garage I had my brake service done on my Accent at!

Pardon the janky camerawork...I only had my phone with me as I didn’t know this yard was there. For those of us who suck at IDing cars or are not from the US/Canada, I’ve added captions clarifying vehicles I didn’t recognize at the time and to fix mistakes I made as I spoke. The vehicle’s years listed in the caption are of the model you SEE in the video where I can identify it, otherwise the listed years in the caption are the full span for that particular vehicle. The text will be correct as possible, so if I say one thing and the text says another, go with the text! :)

P.S. - the first 30 seconds are a title slide saying basically the same as above, so the ‘action’ in the video starts around the 30-second mark, if you can call it action...lol.

Pardon any errors I make in my captions or when I was speaking in the video, I’m not perfect! :P

Enjoy! :D

“soorry,” but I just now finished the video. You Canadians sure do like to apologize haha.

Clearly there was a lot of effort gone in to editing this video. I applaud your effort, good sir! I very much enjoyed it. Seriously, the effort to supply the captions clearly shines through. It made the experience much more polished and enjoyable. The years were also interesting.

I am surprised at how much stuff was either Canadian exclusive or had a different name. The Echo hatchback was entirely new to me. I still the sedans and coupes around every once in a while but they are fading from the roads.

What also surprised me was the amount of 15 year old cars that were junked without any impact damage. There was a Ranger in particular that looked too nice to junk.

Thank you for this. I look forward to seeing what stuck out to some of the Europpos since the cars would be much less familiar to them. I do love a good ramble through the discarded cars outside a shop, a fact I’ve taken the time to prove here many times.

That’s a good job, to be fair it’s a little bit too long to watch it all at once, i watched 10 minutes and will continue later  :)

I can understand that :P

Well, I was recording while I was there and it took me that long to walk through the whole yard, so that’s how long the video is! :D

Yeah, it took a LONG time to put all those captions in, haha!

Oh? The Echo hatch was another one of those Canada-only things (well, for North America...obviously other markets got it. It’s called the Vitz in other markets. I really like the Echo hatch....it was a precursor to the Yaris hatch. I haven’t seen an Echo coupe in awhile, but I still see the Echo sedans fairly regularly.

I also had a Pontiac Tempest in the video, which was a Canada-only rebadge of the Chevy Corsica...can’t remember what other Canada-only vehicles I had spotted...

Yeah, there were quite a few cars there with no obvious accident damage. I think a lot of them were there due to mechanical failure, maybe, or just rust :(

I know it’s a long one, but I recorded for pretty much the length of time it took me to walk through the yard and comment on everything, so I didn’t really want to cut anything out. I sortof just wanted it to be as if you were there along with me :)

Hopefully some other folks enjoy it as well, you’re the only other person to comment so far aside from Jb boin!

You’d been hyping it up and, other than some shaky camera work, you delivered. It really was like having a ramble through a salvage yard which is always a fun thing to do. I could use the break, to be honest.

Sometimes you put a lot of work into a post and then few people read/watch it. The fun was really in making it after all.

I've been stringing together another DIOCCUSA video. This time, it is three busses for the cost of one! They never get many views but they are fun to make.

I enjoyed seeing what the junkyard population is somewhere quite far away from here. I still might have never known about the Echo hatch if not for this. Also, Platz is a stupid name and far inferior to Echo.

That late run Ranger had no visible rust and they are too valuable to let a mere engine failure take them off the road. Strange.

I always appreciate someone else who has a passion for the formerly mundane cars you barely notice aren’t around anymore unless you think about it.

I can really see the effort you put into this.

Thanks! I wish I had had my good camera with me, but alas.....shaky phone footage is all I had lol. The captions took a fairly long awhile, but I figured folks who didn’t know models very well or from Europe/Oz, etc would appreciate ‘em.

Is the Amphicar still out towards Parkdale?

There were a lot of older Elantras....the thing I saw the most though, I think (at least in that particular yard) , was Chevy/GMC C/K series trucks! There were a lot of Cavaliers and Sunfires too though...

It was pretty fun to make, for sure! Though by the end I was a bit tired of labeling cars :P

Platz means ‘space’ in German, if memory serves, so that name came as a play on trying to say it was a pretty roomy commuter, I guess?

Yeah, that Ranger and few others definitely didn’t seem like they deserved to be there...that Subaru Legacy Outback made me sad as I quite like the styling on those!

I see why Platz wasn’t used on this continent. Maybe Echo had already been taken elsewhere.

Yeah, content creation can get a little monotonous at times but I think the fun I have outweighs the annoyance at copy pasting and looking up info with my infuriatingly gummy keyboard. I just can't seem to get it ungummed.

Is it a desktop keyboard? Might be able to pop the keycaps off and give it a good wash?

If it’s a laptop, it’s often relatively easy to replace the keyboard with a new one for a fairly reasonable price! ( $20-30 CAD)

Really? I might look into that. It's a well known brand of taplop so it probably could be done.

If you don’t mind telling me the make and model, I can tell you roughly how much it’d cost (I do computer repair on the side)...I usually get my replacement keyboards from Ebay. Some have keyboards build into the top panel, which requires replacing the whole top panel....but I can certainly look for you!
