Husband: “Ta-dah! It’s finally complete!”
Wife: “That’s nice. Now when are you going to move that pile of dirt? Have you put down grass seed yet? I was thinking that we could have a nice flower bed over on this side. Don’t forget to put away your ladder. Do the lights have to be that way? Maybe if we just rearranged them a bit....”

It is, except for the staining/UV coating, counters and cabinets for the grill, wood adirondack chairs, landscaping, natural gas conversion, fire pit/chiminea, and decoration. PROVE ME WRONG

Dirt has been reuse/moved, she takes care of plants, ladder is put away, lights are GREAT! It’s nice not having to avoid running into the bulbs or hitting them with the door like we used to

Much appreciated, we have been enjoying it and I’m glad to have it done. Took a surprisingly short amount of time

There’s no doubt you did great work!
However, if your wife is like most wives, the next project is already cued up and she’s wondering why you haven’t started yet.

I’m working on a kitchen island now. We’ve been talking about it since we moved in and I started working on the top 6 months ago, I’m building the base now and will post about it when I’m done.
We moved in early November 2018. Since then I put up the fence, replaced 2 ceiling fans, all bathroom vanities, multiple overhead lights, painted the front door, replaced all door knobs, built garage shelves, replaced 900sq ft of flooring and all associated base boards, built and hung a barn door, built the deck, put in a veggie garden, and stripped and replanted the gardens out front . I’ve also been working on repairing a 1956 F100 and had to replace the engine in my car 6 weeks ago. And we spent 2 weeks in Germany and Switzerland last year.
To combine all my projects the kitchen island top is made of the longer strips of hardwood floor I pulled out to lay down all the laminate. Solid oak top built similar to a butcher block
We’ve been plenty busy.

There’s not much left after that. I’ll probably get bored and build a bedroom set for the spare room (already built the entire master suite) and I would like to do a built-in dresser/shelf combo for the master closet but first we need to replace the carpet if we’re going to go that route...
yeah you’re right. It would be nice to take a break so I can save some cash and buy that Gladiator...

“There’s not much left after that.”
Thanks for the laugh! Every time I think that I’m close to
done, something else gets added to the list. My wife already has plans for interior renovations, but it’s a matter of cost versus equity. We are thinking of selling in two years, so we have certain renovations that have to be done, but her plans include making it more “liveable” with a new entry, a new back porch, possibly finishing out part of the attic space....
W e had to have a long talk about how much of our equity we are willing to burn and how much value would be added to the house by each of the projects on the list. If this were our “forever” home, then improving the house to make it better fit our lifestyle would be justified. Given that it isn’t our forever home, we have to be sure to only do projects which will either maintain or improve our equity.

Outside of carpeting and paint there’s really very little that can be done. Counters maybe? Anything is possible but most of it is unlikely, at least in the short term. The house is in great shape.
I, however, seem to need to keep one or more projects going. I want to get more into furniture building and do more sophisticated work than I have to this point. An upscale farmhouse dining room table is on that list.
Some things I did:
repurposed an old dresser into a tv stand (original use), currently a sofa table
Entrance table (first complete build)
Pair of nightstands and headboard with “mood lighting”
built-in bookshelves
Barn door

I work off the top of my toolbox or on saw horses. Sometimes just right on the floor. It sucks but I don’t have the space for a permanent work bench and won’t at this house, which we have not plans to leave. So I make do

I built a Paulk’s compact bench which is meant to be portable. I plan to add bench dog holes, a cutout for a router plate, and foldable legs. Paulk’s plans include sawhorses, but I’d rather be able to roll it around.
I also want to add some hooks on one side so I can hang it on the wall when it’s not in use. The wall mount was inspired by this guy :

I have definitely considered building a foldable one on my free wall but that would require finding another spot for the truck hood which is currently unavailable.
I think I need to get that truck out of the way....
