Its finally here. We’ve all been waiting for it and the full pricing and options for the RS6 Avant are finally on Audi’s build site. Most of us will probably never be able to afford one but its ok to dream right?

Kinja'd!!!

The RS6 Avant gets powered by a glorious 4 liter 591 horse twin turbo V8. That gets paired to an 8 speed Tiptronic auto and Quattro AWD. 0-60 is a claimed 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 174. Somehow that gets raised to 190 if you get the ceramic brake option. The downside to all this tech and power though is that she’s a heavy one. Curb weight is nearly 5 thousand lbs at 4,960. Standout standard features include:

HD Matrix-design headlights with dynamic DRLs and high-beam assist

Power tailgate open/close

Valcona Leather seats with honeycomb stitching and RS embossing

RS model-specific front/rear fascia

RS model-specific oval exhaust outlets

There are 8 exterior colors to choose from. Pretty basic sporty colors (Blue, Gray, Silver, Black etc). One, Nardo Gray is no charge. The other 6 are all $595 options while the last one, Sebring Black Crystal, is $1,075. I choose the $595 Black. There are 4 wheel options including the standard 21” wheels. The other wheel is a 22” option for $1,500. The last two wheels are part of packages. One requires the addition of a Black Optic Pack along with $2,450 for the 22” wheels, and the other is part of the Carbon Optic Package and is $6,350 for the wheels alone. More on those in a bit.

Audi does interiors better than anyone else, and the RS6 Avant’ s interior is no exception. You can choose between standard sport and up level comfort seats with both being available in 4 different leather colors (Black with Red stitching, Black with Rock Gray stitching, all Black and Cognac Brown with Granite Gray stitching) with contrasting stitching, and 2 dash inlays: aluminium or carbon which is $500. All leather choices are no extra cost. However if you want Comfort seats, they are a part of a $1,500 contour seating package. This package changes the leather to Valcona leather, which I assume is better? The seats also get 18 way adjustments for the front seats with massage and memory functions and adjustable headrests. I didn’ t add these because honestly, look at them

( They look cheap and flat. I did add the carbon dash inlay.

Other than the Contour Seating Package, there are 8 other packages for the RS6:

Gray Ceramic Brake Package $8,500 : equips Gray ceramic brakes both front and rear and raises the top speed to 190 mph.

Black Optic Package $2,450 :

22" 5-V-spoke trapezoidal design titanium matte finish wheels

285/30 summer performance tires

Black Optic exterior package

Black exterior side mirror housings and roof rails

Black badges

Executive Package $2,500 :

Extended leather package (instrument panel, door rails, door armrest and center console trim in Fine Nappa leather, black or cognac with stitching; color matches the interior equipment)

Head-up display with navigation systems information

Heated rear seats

Power soft-closing doors

Driver Assistance Package $2,250 :

Audi adaptive cruise assist with Traffic Jam assist

Audi active lane assist with Emergency assist

Intersection assist

Traffic sign recognition

Sport Exhaust with Black finishers $1,000

22” almunium wheels on summer performance tires $1,500

Night Vision Assistance with large animal detection (should have been in the Driver Assistance Package) $2,500

19 speaker 1,820 watt Bang & Olufsen 3D Advanced Sound System $4,900

Of course, the options come with caveats. The Gray Ceramic and Black Optic packages cant be combined together; the Contour Seating pack requires the Executive Package; and adding the 22” wheels surprisingly adds all wheel steering for no charge. I added all the packages except the Executive package, Black Optic, Contour Seating and Night Vision Packages. With none of the accessories (of which there are only 2; a cargo box and a bike rack) the RS6 Avant loaded here comes out to $129,240. So figure you will spend $109k-$133k for an RS6 Avant depending on options. One could hope and wait for these things to hit the used market, but the performance and the fact I don’ t see many people buying these things which insures their rarity all don’ t bode well for prices to come down, if ever.

Tough call this or the Merc. I’m definitely an Audi guy here, but the Merc got dat noise on lock.

It’s for looks more than anything. No reason a wagon should have wheels that big. When it comes time to replace the tires? That’s gonna hurt bad.

Even the relatively lowly SQ5 compact crossover has 22” standard. On that, though, it’s typical crossover tactics — giant wheels make it look more like a hot hatch than an SUV. Still, hard to justify the ongoing costs of tire replacements vs the nearly identical lower models (which come with TINY 17”-19” wheels!)

Th e higher top speed would. be due to less unsprung weight would be my guess. Plus, the increases braking ability makes coming down from those speeds safer.
