Next step, buy a buffer and polish the rest of the truck. She’s in amazing shape for being parked outside for 19 years, baking in the Colorado sun and being covered with ice and snow. I’m bummed my dad backed into a pillar and bent the rear bumper. I might get a custom bumper with a tire and gas can carrier and replace the OEM piece.
I removed the trim from the front fender as the clips basically disintegrated - new clips were supposed to come today.

I love that gen of Tundra. The paint does not usually hold up that well. What’s the color called?
Color matched cap is good.
My dad’s 02 TRD
TRD flares make it look so much better. Keep your eyes out in a junkyard. All post facelift ones had them.

Platinum metallic. Trust me, I’ve been looking. Those flares sell for $400+ these days. I found some good aftermarket ones for $400 or so as well, might get them later. Had to get spacers for the larger tires and now they stick out.

I’m just painting the topper to match the truck. If I keep her forever, I’d paint her either Toyota Cement or Toyota Army Green. Cement would go better with the blue-ish interior.

A buddy in high school had one new (rich family, this was like 2005 ) he rolled it with me in the passenger seat while driving like an ass on a dirt backroad. Good times.

I love the aggressive stance they give the truck without being over the top. I love the look you've got going on. How many miles? My dad's is just 8,000 miles away from the big 300,000.

This was the truck to have in 2001. You don't see many with paint still left on them but I love those things. I don't believe it has ever been on more than a dirt road and once it climbed a moderately steep dirt incline.

145000 miles. I recon I’ll just keep her forever, if the frame doesn’t rot. She was my first new vehicle purchase after moving to states.
I really need to get her on stands and POR30 the frame.

I still think these are the best sized trucks - especially 2005-2006 DC models with upgrade engine and transmission.

what’s wrong with it now?

They will run forever. The only danger is the rust susceptible frame. I’ve known this chassis and engine combo to go well past 300,000 without any issues. One owner says he recommended a Sequoia to a friend who is still driving trouble free at 500,000 miles.
And the size is perfect. Bi g bed that doesn’t give up too much interior room. Can still fit 5 in a pinch without too much discomfort. The fake leather interior isn’t particularly durable, though brown is better looking. Great color options too.
Where were you living before you moved here?

It was free, painted the wrong color, and all the clear coat is gone. I don’t want to be “that guy” in my nice neighborhood- it’s enough that in driving a 20 year old truck, might as well look good.

I loved in Serbia.
Yeah, engine and tranny are bulletproof. Frame... let’s just say I could really use a wire brush, angle grinder, and a few gallons of por30.

Has it already had the frame replaced for that recall?
Also,
“ I loved in Serbia.”
Interesting. Did you buy the most American vehicle you could find on purpose? What made you want a full sized pickup truck?

If you don’t mind my asking, what kind of prep are they doing and what is it going to cost?

No frame recall. It’s not rusted enough. Just surface rust for now.
My damned autocorrect does love instead of live 99% of time. I lived in states for 2 years or so before I bought it. I had a 1999 Taurus SHO before that and I just liked the Tundra.

No clue on the prep, and it should be $400 if I’m remembering it right . I can’t find the paper quote and I didn’t ask today when I called.
There is no clear coat left, so they should be able to lightly sand, mask the windows and go at it.

If you want to type love it says live and vice versa. Same.
I’m just picturing your friends back in Serbia when you told them you’ve bought a brand new American sized pickup truck. Is yours the 4.2 (4._ ?_ ) V8? Fantastic engine. SHOs are awesome but a very different experience.
Does the frame replacement offer ever expire? Do they even still do them?

Yeah, frame offer expires. I don’t think I’ll need one, if I get my ass in gear and mitigate the issue. I have a whole week off at the end of June and beginning of July. I should put it in stands and get it done.
My friends had no frame of reference for the Tundra.

You could just let them replace it under warranty and probably get a loaner during that time. Is there a threshold for them to consider it bad enough? I’d want to stay proactive on it. Or did the offer already expire?
I imagine it must be kind of funny to explain you drive a slightly luxed up utility vehicle because it is fun and not all that expensive to keep on the road. That bed can haul tons of crap too.

Offer expired years ago, and this frame wouldn’t qualify anyway. Requirement was to be able to jam a screwdriver through the frame.
I use the truck as my primary dog hauler, but we’ve been gardening a ton since we bought the new house so it gets used often. Now, luxed up... that’s a stretch. Fabrics seats, power windows, ac. I installed touch screen stereo with car play to replace the old cassette player. This is far far from luxed up.
