ive always wondered....can you really hear eachother thru the piece of string and a can.....or can you just hear eachother coz your like 6ft apart and stupid kids

The U.K. government has never been good at databases when it comes to the NHS. The NHS and tech company know what they want and need, then the government step in and say, ‘what if we can get it to do this and that?’. That’s when it all goes to crap.
Tech and bureaucrats don’t go together.

umm... you can. Assuming the string is tight and attached to a flexible enough bottom of a jar, the sound will make the string move which will in turn move the bottom of the jar transmitting sound...
6 feet is probably too close for an experiment. Go around a corner and close the door. Dial the number and see if the party you’re calling answers.

I feel like that happens a lot in government. One agency starts a project to handle their own needs, then a bunch of other agencies start piling on when they realize they can use it to get some of their stuff done, too, but it causes a mission creep, and blows the budget and timeline.
