Not that it’s a bad article on it’s own, but the father’s day aritcle about dad moments in sports has a pretty glaring omission in the form of the Earnhardt family. Here’s ol’ Sr at victory lane for his son’s first win in the big leagues. You can’t help but have a soft spot for when he takes off his hat and puts on his son’s team hat as a show of love and pride for his son’s accomplishments.
I was on a NASCAr history kick a few months ago and Sr’s love for his family and his want and desire to be a ble to race alongside his son was something not well covered at the time. Especially considering that was all he wanted with his dad - to be able to be on track with him and to show him how he had grown as a driver.
So allow me to correct the wrong of Deadspin by saying that here’s an amazing fatherhood moment form the world of motorsports. An yone have any others?

I remember hearing Ned Jarrett in the booth calling two Dayton wins for Dale.

I feel like Ned/Dale Jarrett don’t get enough recognition sometimes considering both had series championships and in general had competitive rides for a majority of their careers. Moments like those just add icing onto the cake.

They both had such low key personalities it was easy to over look them at times, especially since Ned’s career had Richard Petty during his time, and Dale had Earnhardt taking up a lot of the press.

Michael and Mario Andretti battled for a race win on Father’s day in 1986.
And in 1991, there were 3 Andrettis on the podium in Milwuakie a week or two before Father’s day.
