More recently I’ve been thinking it could be interesting to build one of these - if you can get past the whole “fake car” thing. Also, the amount of effort required to complete it.

I watched Ford vs Ferrari last night. Watching Cobras and GTs being driven in haste was glorious.

I read an article about one that was a father/son project. The author said it was so much better than the real thing simply because it wasn’t perfect. There were some things that could have been done better and some small items that were never finished, but they drive it anyway. And that’s what makes it great. It’s driven. They don’t worry about keeping it pristine. They enjoy the car.

I helped a friend build a Factory Five Cobra 15 years ago. It was a fun project and the end result was a hoot to drive.

It really depends on what you are after. You’d never bring one of these to most car shows - cruise nights would be fun though. I’d never buy a real Cobra - way more than I’d ever want to spend even if I could afford it. Ideally I think I’d want something that could do both.
If it was a fun driver’s car the car show aspect could likely be forgiven...

I have a car industry colleague in the UK who just shakes his head at the whole “authentic” Cobra thing. Shelby only did what a dozen other guys did— slapping a big American V8 in that AC chassis so many people were using— but he marketed HIS version better.
In the Cobra marketplace? I see zero shame in the replicas.
