It was 30 years ago today.....
Yes, that’s a mullet. At the time, I did not know mullets were a thing. I just wanted my hair long in the back. The mullet was gone by the next year.
Last summer at Disneyland. We were supposed to be at Disneyland right now.
Cheers! Here’s to 30 more years.

Yup, 1988, four speed. The first car that was all mine. I absolutely loved that car.
And thanks!

I want one, but I know they are, by modern standards, kind of terrible. Then again, I split my driving between a 25 year old Golf and a 34 year old Cabriolet, so it’d be fine I think.

Good luck finding one that isn’t a pile of rust. Mine survived only because it spent its life in TX. No, it wasn’t the fastest car in the world, but it was reliable, just spirited enough to be some fun to drive, and you couldn’t beat the form factor of a two-door wagon. I put everything I owned into it when I left VA for grad school in Houston.

Credit to my wife for sticking with me . She’s supported this family the whole way while I try to scrabble together some sort of career in music.

Congratulations! Looking great and hope you get to Disney (or at least somewhere out of Texas) soon for a break!
And yeah everyone had a mullet back then I think...

There’s one for sale about three hours away from me. It was a California car, then it lived in New England for a year or so, then was shipped inoperable to Ohio, where it is now. The guy’s trying to move it, clean body, runs but doesn’t like to idle. CIS and they dropped the price to 1200 a few days ago. Another one two hours in the opposite direction, but for a four door sedan that needs a clutch. They want $650, but it’s been a KY car its whole life, so I’d expect rust...
Oh well. I have too many projects and not enough time already.

After a year of that long hair in Houston, it was just too damned hot so I cut it off.
And thanks. I hope we get somewhere too. Only five weeks left of summer before my boys start band camp (supposedly), so this summer is pretty much over.

It’ll be 7 years in August for me. Sometimes it feels like 30. I can’t imagine what 30 feels like...
All kidding aside, congratulations, and wishing you 30 more wonderful years together!

I wonder about the interior. I followed the Fox with a 2001 Golf. Both of them ran in spite of all my attempts to kill them with poor maintenance, but the interiors both went to shit at the end. I put 175k on the Fox, and 215k on the Golf before a drunk totaled it in front of my house one night. I’d still have it otherwise.

Over 30 years, lots of things change, for better or for worse . Be sure to enjoy the first part of the journey. I can’t imagine doing this with anybody else, though.

If you meant to make me feel old, mission accomplished. ;)
Having that mullet certainly gives us something to talk about 30 years on. Back then, nobody thought anything of it. We had only just escaped the 80s. And all things being equal, I’d like to be in the 80s now.

It’s an interesting milestone when you realize that you’ve been married for more than half of your life. Congrats to you both on your first 20.

I think I’d probably skip the 80's but I do wish I was 10 years older so I could have grown up during the 90's, graduated in 2000 and bought a house when it wasn’t crazy.
All things being equal.

Congratulations! That’s a big anniversary, one you really can’t forget or else ;)
That is one wedding haircut you won’t forget. I think the tinted glasses compliment it nicely.

I graduated from college in 1984 (suck it, Orwell), so the 80s were a pretty good time for me. I met my wife in 1986, so we had four years of dating before we got hitched. Lots of very good times, and I was certainly not thinking of buying a house. We bought our first just 18 years ago.

She is indeed a saint, and the glue that holds this family together. She is the only woman in a house with four men, and if it weren’t for her steady hand, we might not all have survived.
I had those photogray glasses for many years. I’m sure they’re better now, but they weren’t very good back in the day.

Yeah, all the Foxes I’ve seen have crappy interiors. Same for all Mk2s. Mk4s too. But most Mk1
and Mk3 interiors
hold up for whatever reason.
