Our Outback needed a new headlight. Since my daughter will be taking it to college in the fall, this was the opportunity to show her how to do it.
There are a couple of ways to get to the headlight. The official way is to remove the grill and bumper cover, then pop the headlight lens out, then replace the headlight bulb. The other way is to pop the inner fender liner loose, then squeeze your arm through the gap and remove the back cover from the lens. This is the easier way.
After changing the light, we washed both cars. I broke out the pressure washer to soap them up and rinse them after scrubbing them down. We plan to tackle the interior, the trim, and wax them both after it cools off a bit.
I happened to hit the driveway with the power washer and was reminded that it needs to be cleaned too. In the meantime, we thought it could use a little flair.

I’d have pegged you as more of a red nails kind of guy.

Clearly that was her hand, not mine. Mine is significantly hairier.

I would leave the driveway like that.

I say leave the flames.
Story time: I used to work for a well known donut selling chain; I’ll call it Crunchy Creaminess. During a company inspection it was pointed out that our floor mixer had some surface rust on the pedestal. I was asked to do some prep/paint to keep it from spreading. At the next inspection the mixer had no rust, but it did have flames.

That sounds like fun. This was my first attempt at making a flame. Mine is the left one. My daughter took over from there.

I cheated and made a stencil in cardboard before painting the mixer. It was my first time doing any kinda custom paint work.
I keep saying if I could make a final decision that I’m keeping my truck until it’s ready for the junk heap I would do ghost flames on it. Instead I keep checking out Rancheros and El Caminos.

I saw some amazing ghost flames on a car once. The guy painting them used a slightly different mix of paint for the flames and they really only appeared at certain angles. Everything I’ve seen since is a lot more visible. I’d love to learn to paint like that.

I remember uttering a few choice words sticking my hand in the wheelwell to work on the headlight assembly of my old 06 outback
