The rent-a-racer history remains in tact. That’s really quite amazing honestly, especially considering the 25 minute wait in Cali .

so now that he has bragged about it, does he get the grand priz e of a few years in jail for the unimaginable number of reckless driving charges?

Notes to Self: “Make Sure in Upgrading to the Premium Grade Mustang that I didn’t trigger a ‘100 Free Miles Per Day’ Box on the Rental form. Additional Miles at $.55 per mile.”

Contrary to popular Oppo beliefs, I for one, have no problem with folks doing the cannonball runs. I have no desire to do it, but I get the thrill of chasing a rush like that.

Realistically (and statistically i bet), it doesn’t endanger any more people than a monster truck show, or a drifting event. Correct me if I’m wrong, but there hasn’t actually ever been a documented case of a cannonballer getting into an accident, is there?

“ there hasn’t actually ever been a documented case of a cannonballer getting into an accident, is there?”

A lack of incidents doesn’t mean that the risk isn’t there, it is just that these are so infrequent that an incident hasn’t occurred yet.

If I fired a gun into a crowd once and nobody got hit, does that mean it is a risk free activity?

It would be up to a prosecutor to prove that he committed a crime while in a particular jurisdiction. Hard to charge him if nobody saw where he was at or when he was there.

It’s pretty fucking terrifying to be driving down the highway and suddenly have a vehicle approach you at 50mph+ over the speed of traffic when they weren’t even visible a moment ago.

I’ve always said there is no car faster than a rental.

At this point in the Cannonball record i t’s probably more important to drive it hard than to just have a fast car. Having a fast car that you own, you might not be able to ignore coolant and oil temp issues, or the development of a new noise.

No concerns with the rental though. Just check the boxes and pay the few bucks extra for the insurance.

The rental car company will probably be upset, but if they were smart, they should list it on Bring a Trailer!

I’ll point out the painfully obvious in that if someone gets in an accident trying to break an illegal street racing record, they aren’t going to offer up that information to police. But yes, there is plenty of documentation regarding how dangerous street racing is.

Also, people attending Monster Truck shows and drift events know they’re attending said events. They aren’t unwillingly made spectators/participants to those events.

It doesn’t seem as if you’ve actually put any thought into your opinion on this activity.

Are monster truck shows known be dangerous?  Seemed pretty well controlled and safe when I went.

Heck, I am amazed he got 14 mpg. That is the same MPG my CRX race car got in endurance races. And he was doing a lot faster than 85 average MPH.....

1. So if someone crashes their own car who cares?

B. people drive cars with the understanding they may get into an accident, whether it’s caused by them or not.

4. Thanks for attacking me personally, that feels great

But if you did it for 40 years straight with no ill effects, you might suspect you were shooting blanks, no?

Someone pointing out you’re not thinking very hard about the questions you’re asking is not a personal attack. If you’re that sensitive to criticism, you need to really think about the questions and responses you’re typing.

Someone crashing their own car, even if they don’t hit anyone, at 150 or so mph, is going to require a not insignificant response from emergency medical services . And I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but we’re still in the middle of a pandemic.

While people drive cars with the acceptance of risk that an ACCIDENT may happen, a wreck resulting from street racing is not an accident, it is negligence (that’s why you’re likely to go to prison if you wreck while street racing).
