Finally got the tail tidy installed despite accidentally cutting the wrong connector for the license plate light and needing to buy a lot of soldering components from harbor freight just f ive minutes before closing to get it done. It took way longer than I would’ve liked, but the result is worth it. For reference, here’s the old tail:

That looks so much better! Ironically I installed an anti-tail tidy (the OEM rear fender and turn signals) on my bike this afternoon-
90's regulations were much less stringent than today’s though...

Ironically, those were included in the kit but the solder didn’t want to melt and the plastic got burnt and melty instead. I did it the old fashioned way and now everything works fine.

It was terribad. Thi one is so much nicer while keeping all relevant safety lights. The LED license plate lights are an extra nice touch too as the old light was quite dim, and seemed to light the ground more than the plate. Hopefully with these, I won’t get any guff about not having a plate light.

Yeah, that’s actually a proper fender too. Mine has a bit of fender on it already but also has that giant honking growth for......reasons, I guess?

Thanks! I was a bit wary due to the price of the kit (over 100$!) but it came with great i ns tructions and properly engineered brackets and hardware to make it all work.. It looks so clean in person now.

Some goofy regulations, I’m sure... Was yours at least easy to get off? I always assumed they designed those appendages with the knowledge that the first thing the owners would do is take them off

The clips for the connectors were weird but other than that, the entire section is held in by four bolts. Aside from my own ham fisted wire cutting, the process wasn’t too bad. The worst part was removing the turn signals from the plastic tail. I got mad and eventually busted out the dremel with a plastic cutting wheel. It did the job.
