If you are announcing a new policy that wrecks work/life balance, or outright puts employees in harm’s way, don’t add a paragraph at the end about how we (we!) are putting safety and our families first.
Everyone knows it’s bullshit, so it only makes things worse.
And for fuck sake, stop saying "stay safe." My blood pressure alone isn't safe after reading that kind of trite shit.

Mission statements are to trick investors. My last company did the opposite of every item in their statement....or....should have asterisked each one.
Hire the best people* (that will work cheap and come from une mployment centers)

You mean my store manager at Autozone didn’ t really mean “we are all one big family”?

Not only is this management fail, its also marketing fail. If you are going to fuck over employees, you gotta trick them better than that. Pull a Musk.

Now I'm starting to question whether that online retailer I bought one thing from 2 years ago is really here for me in this difficult times, or whether they are really ready to have the conversation on Black Lives Matter

In mid March the COO of my former came down from NYC for a meeting with the DC team. We sat around and listened as he sang everyone’s praises, assured us all that our jobs were safe and that no matter we would weather this storm together. One week later, on the anniversary of my 2nd year with the company, I was laid off via a phone call with someone in HR. Turns out the laid off everyone who was not directly involved in an ongoing, billable project. My direct boss didn’t even know I was being laid off until I called him to ask him what the fuck. The company then proceeded to place marketing material on their L inkedin page congratulating themselves for not having let anybody go during this pandemic. It was gross.
People are horrible. Companies don’t care. Employees are dollar signs. Good luck with things, hope they improve.

Call those mf’ ers out. Some companies do care.
We actually hired people during all this. Employees in our restaurants (drive thru/carryout only at that point) were told they could have LOA and jobs would be waiting when they were ready to return . Gave bonuses to store-level personnel who did work, 14 days paid TO if you reported illness that even remotely resembled a covid symptom, 50% temp pay bump for employees who agreed to transfer to stores that needed extra help (remainder of 2019 bonuses for executive team were repurposed to afford these items). And this is in addition to other perks (bonus program for everyone from newest store-level employee through store manager, emergency fund that is available for employees making less than $ 50k and with us longer than a year, etc. ) that have been added over the last 18 months and that we are looking at adding right now .

My company has been low on COVID bullshit, but we did previously have a bunch of insulting and obvious lies regarding our bankruptcy a few years ago.

The important thing to remember about work: Nobody at work cares about you, they only care about themselves and their paycheck. You could suffer an early demise in the form of getting mowed down by a Weinermobile on the way to the office tomorrow, and a job posting for your replacement would be posted within a week. Therefore, in regards to work, you should only care about you and your paycheck.

Nearly every company is like this. “We only hire the best people”... underpays staff ... “Why do our best people keep leaving?”

Unless he did sincerely mean it...but he treats his family like crap, manipulates them, and just generally doesn’t care for their well being if it doesn’t directly affect him.

Sounds like you work for one of the good ones. I clearly did not. Fortunately, I have landed in a good spot and I’m working again. This place is committed to no overhead so while in the process of moving to a new o ffice and having the space fitted out, they actually made the decision to downsize the space which will make it impossible for everyone to work there. I think that makes a lot of sense. I am actually adjusting to working from home fairly well and the boss/owner is a results guy. He doesn’t care where the work gets done as long as it gets done, which is a refreshing change from having to drive in to DC, pay $13 to park and then sitting in an office. I actually have a coworker with whom I work very closely on a day-to-day basis who will be in New Orleans for the next 4-6 months while helping care for a sick family member, but she’ll still be working. I think that’s a good thing. Thanks for letting me vent.

I think it'd be a bad idea to write too many details online about it. It's been a steady stream of bad policies for COVID-19. The hidden message is that we should consider ourselves lucky to be employed.

Sorry, man. Hope things improve before long.
My wife’s work just had layoffs yesterday. She’s okay, but the person she worked most closely with is gone. It’s just been rough, all around.

And employers wonder why there is no such thing as company loyalty anymore. It’s been every person for themselves since I started working in 1998. The best thing I’ve learned is to make strong connections with coworkers and peers at o ther companies so if there ever is a need to jump ship I have a boat close by to land on.

I’m sick of “in these trying times” or “in these troubled times” or “in these difficult times” personally, makes me irrationally angry.

I was being facetious. It was run by local townies whom also tried getting me involved in selling drugs on the side.

In this hysterically armed and decaying society, I am often astounded that there aren’t more workplace “incidents”, I suppose TEM syndrome still has most people deluded into that eventual jackpot.
My prior office had discreetly located panic buttons in many locations on every floor. I worked on the 9th floor - this wasn’t to notify anyone of an intruder.

Yep, I’ve got the message out to my former coworkers. My current coworkers are pretty sour right now and openly talking about looking for other work. Also interesting is they’ve all mentioned how hard their spouses are pushing them to quit. Mine too.
