Scrapyard time for my Hyundai. I went to check the rear brakes, the car did not go up; the rocker just crushed from the jacking point.
Hoping for a couple more years. Oh well. I learned how to changing a timing belt on this car.

Don’t want to learn how to weld, too?

Damn, sorry to hear mate! A friend had an Elantra of that gen for a few years until he sold it to get something larger...it was a good little car!
Any bead on a replacement?

What state do you live in? I’ve learned the hard way not to jack from the pinch weld on any car from the Midwest. Only from suspension points or subframes.
This car is totally fine, just lower your standards. Not like it’s about to fold in half on the highway.

That sucks.
But the important thing is that you let us all tell you what other bad ideas you should buy to replace this one.
Seriously though, is it not safe enough to limp along for another year to two?

Maybe your next car will have a timing chain, so you’ll never have to worry about a stupid timing belt/timing bomb again :o)
Time to do a suggest a car thread! I got lots of suggestions depending on your needs, budget, and location :p

Pennsylvania. It very likely won’t pass inspection now.

I think it is too much to repair. I can weld but don’t have access to any equipment.

I will ask my step-dad he used to do body work, he should know.

Not sure yet. Just using the wife's car for now.

:( The 944's floor pans are flimsy buttholes, so I’ve had to have someone who knows what they’re doing weld a patch before. It’s a lifelong TX/CA car, though, so no rust.
The 411 had the same done before I got it—it’s rustier from living near the ocean, but yeah. Both aren’t dailies and had something solid to stick to. If it’s all Swiss cheese, you’re prolly out of luck. :(

Rust is the devil herself!

Ah. I have no experience with PA inspections. Couldn’t hit it with some wire brush and rattle can and pass?

Not a chance. If a PA shop even smells rust on the unibody, it’s going to fail. The only rust that gets by is body rust on BOF cars and trucks. I’ve seen them fail trucks for moderate frame surface rust.

Glad I don’t live in PA. My Focus is 80% rust. Ok, maybe not that bad but it’s pretty rusty.

Lame. I’d be carless in PA.
