Kinja'd!!!

No shame in admitting that 6 months no job, Covid-19, social isolation, racism, and lack of government leadership have taken its toll on me. And I would imagine it has taken a toll on all of you as well in one form or another.

I know footie has been back for a few weeks, as well as other sports (Korean baseball, Nascar, MotoAmerica, E-sports). But I’ll happily take Aston Villa/Sheffield United for a start to EPL being back.

Too bad we have to wait until Sunday for Liverpool to hit the pitch.

La Liga started this week too, which is fun.  Hopefully this Aston v Sheffield match is not a snoozer.

Almost forgot about that.  I used to have BeIN Sports, but PlayStation Vue is no more and YouTube TV doesn't have it standard.

I pay for fubo.tv which carries games from every league. It doesn’t have every Premier League game (at least it didn’t during more normal times), but the coverage is pretty good. You can get a free 7 day trial.

it’s already a bit of a snoozer for me

Conspiracy theory: if it was man city or Chelsea that far in front, epl would not have come back. They're only back to give Liverpool the title send-off they deserve.

Agreed.  Maybe Man City and Arsenal will have a bit more excitement.

I would agree except that no matter what happens with the rest of the season there will always be an asterisk next to it.

You think so? They were so far ahead there really was no way they weren’t winning the league. They’re 25 pts up, 22 without their game in hand. That means they’d have to lose 7, or tie 11, or some combo thereof (please check math) . They have one draw and one loss. I know it’s mathematically possible, but come on.

Yeah, I think so. I mean they were the runaway favorites and were only a few games from clinching it, as I recall. However, there was then a three month break and the rest of the games will play at an accelerated schedule. They will still be rightly crowned the champs, but I think the disruption in the season will be noted.

Is Champions League continuing? Or are we still waiting to hear?

The couple La Liga games were interesting with the new rules in place.  5 subs in 3 substitution windows, no offensive players mixed in the wall on direct kicks, etc.

I was going to get Fubo but it was missing too much for the price

It is not cheap. That said, the service has a lot of other channels and is cheaper than cable TV for me with many of the same channels . Plus, it can be cancelled off season, which saves a few bucks.

Soccer and sports in general are so unimportant. Yet mentally, it just feels so much more normal to have some sports to watch. I'm an Arsenal fan and am dreading this game as much as I was 100+ days ago. But I realize that having that game to look forward to for the small hope of beating city gives me something to look forward to. It's a mental break from everything going on to just watch sports and cheer for a team to win a relatively meaningless game.

No clue on champions league.

Hadn't known that about the offensive players in the wall. That's interesting

It was. In contrast, the first few Bundesliga matches when they returned we re all 4 and 5- nil blowouts.  It was like one team never showed up.

Amen! The company that runs VAR released an emphatic apology for their error with the cameras (19 total?) on the goal posts. It was a huge technical glitch. Also, human error on the officiating staff on hand for not halting play why they had the opportunity.

TLDR: everybody's rusty

Oh damn, Arsenal looks lost.  All of the injuries and Luiz's red card isn't helping.

Have the matches become more competitive?

I think they went in with a game plan, but having to replace Xhaka and Mari just threw it all out the window. Especially considering Luiz mistakes led to 2 goals....

definitely, apart from no fans it’s just like a regular match, they’re fighting for the win each time
