I went to a highschool where our mascot was ‘indians’ and we used to dress up a skinny white kid in full native american cosplay with a head dress, fringe and everything - it was not great.
Land O Lakes did drop the native american from their logo recently which I can get behind.

I was amazed that one wasn't the first to get the full brunt of backlash, it was way, way, worse than the Washington Team, you'd think it would be logical to focus on the most egregiously racist cases first, and then gradually work outward from there.

That is going to change very soon. I used to work for Mars, and that family is intensely , fiercely private and shuns all media attention. They are not the type to put up with a prolonged negative PR campaign. They opted to shut down production of Alert gum after only a month on the market and buy back and destroy all inventory after the FDA hinted they were considering doing a study on harmful effects of caffeine in children. I heard from some people at Wrigley corporate that was about an $18 million loss.

The name would be a tough one. "Indian" is used everywhere - not just the team, but motorcycles, place names, etc. Would be very difficult to eliminate everywhere, and it has a somewhat ambiguous definition anyway, when you separate it from any obvious Native American iconography.

When I played pop warner, our team name was The Savages, and our logo was a native american. This was in the ‘90s, not the ‘60s, and I live in a state with a fairly large native population.
