We’re back to 722k PPH over the past 34 hours of folding. Two of our highest folding members have had to scale back because of Summer heat, and I notice myself getting pushed down the team roster. Still, we advanced another spot in the overall team standing. KEEP FOLDING!

These two
are the best E-body models. Sadly they are very rare.

My dad had a ‘71 Cuda 383/auto he bought new upon return from Vietnam, as it was the only BBMopar E-body he could find locally. He actually had had ordered a 71 Challenger 440-6/4spd while he was there, but the dealer sold it out from under him. My sister’s birth was the cause of the Cuda being sold. Sadface.

E
ither of them
would have been a nice family treasure.
My uncle had ‘72 or ‘73 Challenger when those things were still nearly new cars. It was with a 318 and an automatic but that was still an extremely fancy car in Finland during the 70's.
His life was going well in the 70's and he had loaned a large amount of money to his friend. The friend had some business venture going on and my uncle trusted him a lot. The friend did
gave my uncle the Challenger as a guarantee
for the loan.
But then his friend died unexpectedly and the business venture folded too. All that my uncle was left was the Challenger as
the widow wasn’t willing to give anything back
. She did actually want even
the Chall
en
ger returned
. I
haven’t heard how
large was the loan
but apparently a lot more than a nearly brand new Challenger
was worth.
I didn’t get to see the car as he sadly crashed the car fairly soon. It was squished between two large trucks and apparently totaled. He did replace it with a slightly newer 4 door Coronet but he sold it away quite soon. His own businesses started to go into a bad direction and his fancy car days were over.
I have another story too.
One of my friends has owned an original Finnish sold ‘70 Challenger with 440-6/automatic since mid 80's (we did get handful
of 440-6 cars and a single Hemi powered ‘Cuda)
. He did of course
drag race modify it soon after buying it. The originality
wasn’t a
big thing then.
It was the same
car that we went to admire
with his bicycle as a kid
when it was a brand new car. He just decided to buy it when the opportunity
finally came.
C ouple of years ago he started restoring it. He has spent silly amount of money for the parts and the bodywork. I’m pretty sure that it’s going to be the most authentic Challenger restoration ever done in this country and likely rivaling the best ones in the whole world too .
But the sad fact is that it will eventually
be too nice to be
driven on the road...

Boys had turned off their folding for a while, but we’re back at it. Their new GPUs can fold while they play their games with no issues. We crashed 15M overnight.

I think the E-bodies are the best looking of the Mopars. Agreed, it would have been nice. The Cuda turned into a van (70s life!), then sedans (joys of children...) to minivans. He had a few oppo rtunities to replace it, but never did . W e looked at getting a ‘72 Cuda w/ a swapped 440/auto as my highschool project/grad gift but my mom’s logic about my impending doom overruled that. Probably the right call.... B ut that was the last time we had a serious look at purchasing one until he passed some years later. I look on and off as well, but haven’t found the right one . Would enjoy owning one for a little while at least . He had fun cars until children, which I unintentionally mirrored. Howe ver, I’m determined to break the cycle.
Nice to able to keep that and fix it up. Restoring them is an expensive venture, with the downside like you said being to nice/expensive to use. It will be ama zing looking though I’m sure . :)

We lost Trampz too, I assume to the heat.
I’m impressed we’ve been able to keep putting down these big numbers. Hell I even hit 2 million PPD the last few days.

Got yer addy, Rusty. My new b ox should be here today! Day or so to load it and I’ll be able to contribute. A/C on the boat ain’t the best but we’ll do what we can. The kittehs would actually like Sparrow to be a bit warmer. They spend part of the day outside in the shade when they’d really like to be only a couple feet from me on the berth.

E-bodies are nice cars but they are getting
quite expensive. A lot of them were made but their survival rate
hasn’t been very good. But more importantly many other enthusiasts like them too. This ‘73 is the cheapest one availa
ble in Finland (18,000€)
. This is actually a quite good deal even though it’s not a sought after model.
It’s now
buyers market for classic
cars as
Covid-19 is eating people’s savings and
a lot
people are
forced to sell something.
I went looking for a muscle car project couple of years ago. I didn’t want one for restoration so I tried to find something that was too bad or with unwanted options. Among the candidates there were a couple of crash damaged E-bodies. Even one genuine but gutted AAR ‘cuda was within my budget but it was too rare car to be messed up.
I did also look for ‘67-’69 Camaros but I did eventually find myself a neglected ‘69 Charger (originally 318/automatic, currently nothing ) . It had been parted in the 80's and left standing on a field in Kansas. But then some guy started collecting parts for it and was planning to to put it back together. However his project ended up on eBay.
It has body parts out of at least 5 different cars (based on the paint colors) and it does resemble certain famous Charger a lot. The grille is missing so I might even go for the mesh grille solution. I have been trying to find myself a crappy looking original one but they cost more than brand new reproduction ones do.
And yes, the left fender has indeed
bullet holes and I’m not planning to patch them up. T
he project isn’t currently advancing much
but I have
gathered some essential parts for it. It needs some
welding but I have seen much worse examples.

Good. Means you’re folding a lot. BUT... I have a new GPU coming that’ll multiply my output by about 2.5x...

‘69 Chargers are the king of expensive Mopars, at least in the US lol. And a lot are rusty. That one doesn’t look to bad from the picture though. Very cool Charger - it sure does have that Mayhem look to it. Like that you’ll leave the bullet holes, so assume you’re not looking to do a tribute/restoration. P roject car s almost always take longer than they should . Bet it will be a blast to cruise around in when it’s done!

Heard back from the job today and bad news- their budget got reshuffled with our global pandemic and all their open slots were closed. When I talked to them in May they had been cut back from 10 new roles to 3 but they didn’t expect any further.
Life happens though - still have a few other applications in the pipeline and I’ll start to pursue others as hiring is ramping up a bit in tech.

The rust bothers these but replacement sheet metal is quite well available. I have new floor panels waiting besides the car. The rear wheel arches, the whole rear window frame, left side of windshield frame and some minor patches need also to be done.
