!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reminded me of a story that I was told at my local track. Our group bought a second hand Indy-car truck we call “Dayglow” and a few of our group went down to the USA to bring it to Canada.

Kinja'd!!!

Upon arriving at the border, they went into do the import paperwork and the vehicle was inspected. Minutes turned to hours with our members waiting in the CBSA ( Canadian Border Services ).

Kinja'd!!!

Several border guards come in and inform the group they were being investigated for importing a prohibited firearm. Turns out, the border guards f ound a loaded .38 pistol ( prohibited in Canada) under the seat.

The group frantically calls the seller who confirms that the gun is his and it must have fallen out of his waistband or something like that. The border guards confiscate it, and let our guys continue into Canada.

My wife and I bought a cheap, 20-year-old Lincoln (Town Car I think) a long time ago. A few day s after, someone ripped open the dash.

Given that there was no forced entry to the car itself, we assumed the previous owner still had a key and had left a stash or weapon hidden in the dash. That’s the last time I’ll ever use a check with my address to pay for a car, but on the other hand, I’m grateful we didn’t get caught with contraband down the road.

Oh boy. Under CBSA’s thumb is roughly the last place anyone wants to be, especially if they have a reason. On that little strip of land, they are god, they know it, and act as such. Good thing buddy picked up the phone.

Some decades ago, a housemate bought a somewhat well used HG Holden Ute. Whilst it was rough to look at and the tray was partially filled with crap...it had a fresh sounding 253 V8 and very well sorted suspension. Apparently, it had been sitting for a bit in a shed.

Anyway...we got to tidying it up and tuning it up. When it came to the ute bed, we swept it out, sorted the good junk from the bad and began looking for rust.

One of the better known rust spots is around the wheel wells and in the hidden compartment in the floor behind the passenger compartment. So it's not really a hidden compartment (it's a leftover from using the same floor pan as the sedan...)

My housemate noted as he was working on it that the lid of this compartment had easy to remove screws and did not appear to be bonded down with mastic.

Sure enough...there was a half kilo of plastic wrapped marijuana (mostly leaf) stashed in there. Huey knows how long it has been there for but naturally we gave it a shot...in the end we filtered out the best hundred grams or so for household consumption and the rest went into the compost heap...

I don’t really have a use for either.  Harder to flush a gun down the toilet though.

We found an empty vial and a coke spoon under the seat of my wife’s Isuzu pickup about two years after she bought it. Seems like a cheap rig to be snorting coke in but it was a white truck with a full graphics package and a kicking sound system.

I don’t understand how some Americans are so nonchalant with firearms. I have a couple and know exactly where they are. If I decide to conceal carry I’ll know for sure if it slips out. But I am a small guy and that gun pokes into my hip and it’s sort of uncomfortable.

I was cleaning out one of the barns on the property that some less than reputable tenants used before we moved here. At the bottom of a plastic storage box filled with mostly junk   and rodents nests was a pistol. Turned out to be an airsoft gun painted all black but for a good minute there I sat back and scratched my head wondering “What  the hell do I do in this situation?” before I realized what it was. I’m a fan of guns but I prefer mine to not have any questions regarding their origin.

I dunno, less likely the guy would have said “yeah, oops that’s mine” to a border guard...
