"HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles" (hondasfordsvolvo)

I just bought my first Motorcycle. It’s a 1983 XT200. It rides great with new tires and a new clutch last year, and I’m in love with it.
The PO only used it offroad, only ever trail registered it. So it’s blinkers, and mirrors, Are missing, I’d like to get those back on. I’d like to put the mechanical speedometer back on. Po took it off the aftermarket headlight cowl needs to be trimmed to get it back on. The wiring is all still there, for the blinker so that that’s nice. The PO did give me the speedo and cable.
I’ve been riding around on it for the last 2 hours and I really like the way it rides. Much more stable than my BIL’s TW.
I also want to get some proper bark busters, and a rear rack.
I ended up paying 1300 for it and o think that was a fair price. I had offered 1100 and that didn’t cut it.

Nice! Looks like fun, welcome to the old Yamaha club! I don’t know how your state handles it but it should be old enough for historic plates. Here in Ohio I’ve got them on both of my bikes and it saves me a ton of money

I totally forgot about that! Dang it. Already got plates so it’s too late now.
It’s a pay more up front save later thing here tho. Like an extra 75 up front, but you never have to register it again. I’m not sure how long I’ll be keeping this, I may want to get a bigger bike in a couple years. Wi motorcycle registration is every 2 years anyway so it would take a while to get your money back.

So awesome a first bike - excellent choice too! I love dual sports for that, enough power but not too much and very durable.
Have fun with it!

Gotcha... I think it was actually cheaper here to get the historic plate than the regular one, plus it’s good for 50 years

Yup. It’s got a whooping 18hp. And it’s plenty fast for me!

Nice! Looks like a fun little bike to bash around with. I was going to mention the bark busters but it appears you know what you’re doing :) . See how she goes . Have fun and ride safe.

I used to race vintage MX from ‘97 to ‘06, we had an ‘81 250 very similar to this, we stripped it down and cut the muffler off and ran it against the factory 2 strokes in a class with similar year models, my son got 3rd in his first race and i got in the top 3 most of the time, it was the perfect combination of power and handling with that single rear shock, most of the amateur tracks were hard pack and the 2 strokes don’t have any engine breaking, they would always head for the berm and we would cut inside and flat track inside of em. also the typical mx bikes of that time had a very high seat height and were hard to lean over in the turns, our XT was more low slung and easier to turn and more confidence inspiring, we got a lot of funny looks at the start gate but once we got going and slowly working our way up they changed their tune. some of them came to our pit and looked it over and looked at us and just walked away sha king their heads
