The good news is I felt confident enough in my Saab’s operational status to drive it to the exhaust shop to get the bung for a wideband O2 sensor welded in.
The bad news is I was punished for my confidence by the secondary fuel pump failing, resulting in it almost stalling on the highway.
This vehicle is a frustration.
In this case this is my third feed pump and is 100% on me.
I should have dropped the tank and cleaned it when I got the car.
I should have dropped the tank and cleaned it when the first pump failed.
I should have dropped the tank and cleaned it when the second pump failed.
And I damn sure will drop the tank and clean it now.
Luckily the pumps are pretty cheap and I always have a spare on the trunk, but damn it I though I could complete one fucking trip in this hateful thing without it pulling this shit on me.
[UPDATE] Took surface streets home and made it. Touch and go the last four blocks or so but only had one total stall and was able to restart it by dumping the clutch. Siphon and new pump on order.
Oh and I guess the bung is in. $60 which seems a
little
high, but totally acceptable. They didn’t want to install the O2 sensor because of the wring being so close to the belts, which is pretty understandable. The kit came with a plug, so they installed that and I’ll get the sensor in later
. Gauge is already in and wired.
Also should have mentioned my response to waiting rooms was to set up a lawn chair on the shady part of their building. They were a little confused, but seemed OK with it. Their waiting room is tiny and dirty, so I’m not sure why they haven’t set up chairs here anyway.
Random Bun Bun gif because I haven’t been taking any pictures lately.

Good SAAB news - valve cover gasket and control arms successfully replaced.
Bad SAAB news - didn’t fix the clunk I hoped it would. If you brake somewhat heavily to stop and then apply gas to take off there’s a slight bump.
Also found the transmission cooler banjo bolts are leaking. But at least the seals are cheap!

Oh man I have such a love/hate relationship with banjo bolts. If you’re going to be doing a lot of work to the car I suggest picking up a couple crush washer kits. I have three (copper, aluminium, and aluminium + rubber) and those and the o-ring kits have saved me so many trips to the parts store.

Not a bad idea. I did order official seals for those and the oil cooler hoses too. I have it booked for brake and coolant flush and alignment later this week. Hopefully I can get that fixed before then and have them do the trans too so I know it’s at the correct level.
