A U.S. F15C from the 48th Fighter Squadron, Aka Liberty Wing, based at RAF Lakenheath in Suffolk crashed 74 nautical miles east off the English, Yorkshire coast at 9:40am U.K. time. Two RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) vessels from Bridlington and Scarborough along with a helicopter from the HM Coastguard.

The body of a pilot has been recovered after a US Air Force fighter jet crashed into the North Sea.

A spokeswoman for the 48th Fighter Wing at RAF Lakenheath said: “The pilot of the downed F-15C Eagle from the 48th Fighter Wing has been located, and confirmed deceased.

“The name of the pilot will not be released until all next of kin notifications have been made.

“This is a tragic loss for the 48th Fighter Wing community, and our deepest condolences go out to the pilot’s family and the 493rd Fighter Squadron.”

Rest in peace airman.

wouldnt surprise me if theres a beacon of some sort...course...it also wouldnt surprise if it turned out not to be waterproof....

anyhoo....the north sea is not a sea you want to be floating around in for hours on end....bit nippy

Sorry, meant to add that they found the wreckage (currently recovering the wreckage of the aircraft) but as per title, air man still missing.

Weather conditions for Humber and Dogger, are sea condition, slight to becoming mainly smooth, visibility, moderate occasionally very poor. As of midday today.

There was an article in the Military Times back in 2014 where the emergency beacon in the seat failed, up to nine times at that point.

The sea state is good for the area the wreckage was located but visibility may also be a factor as of midday it was foggy at times.

Given how foggy it was, having so many aircraft in one area must of been stressful.
