I know, those of you who live in actual hot places will NOT be impressed with this forecast, but for New England, this is kind of Peak Summer (later in the week anyway).
Highs in the mid-to-high 80's and increasing humidity with lows only getting into the 60's around sunrise. In June this means it’s still 80 when we’re trying to go to bed, and because our bedroom is the whole south side of our 2nd floor, it gets ALL the sun in the afternoon. If it’s 80 and sunny, it’s easily 90 in our room, even with the windows open. My wife and I both like it cool to sleep, not to mention quiet.
We’ve been in this house 11 years now and every year it seems we’ ve used our window-unit A/C’s more and more, and I’ve slept worse every night we’ve had to run them because of the cycling on and off noise ... until finally we put in a mini-split last week:
Of course it’s barely cracked 70 since Friday, but we ran it a little just to see what it could do, and it’s glorious. We had a 5,000 and 6,000 BTU window unit in the room and that was adequate . This unit is 15,000. We expect we’ll do what we’ve done in the past and just leave the door open to let the cool/drier air go out into the hall and downstairs (we’ve never run an a/c in the downstairs, haven’t needed to). At a minimum our bedroom will be very comfortable and QUIET overnight, and I expect the house will be plenty comfortable just letting this run all afternoon with the bedroom door open.
The kids’ rooms still have window units, we’ll probably just run them on the very hottest days, for an hour or so before they go to bed to cool the rooms down. We’ll see.
Aside from the obvious a/c benefit, this unit can heat as well, and since the whole upstairs zone for our forced hot water system runs almost entirely to heat our room, this might be a more efficient method of heating up our room for a couple hours in the morning and evening as we do in the winter. In any case, it’s not a bad thing to have another heating/cooling option, and one that’s very efficient and powerful, too.
BRING ON THE HEAT!

Hot and thunderstorms? Yup that sounds like summer to me.
Wake me up when it’s fall.

We’re expecting high temps in the low 90s and peak humidity in the low 90% too. The heat gets turned on for a few months a year, the a/c has been on since February.
Our unit turns 13 years old this year. We had it serviced a few weeks ago and it will probably last a while, but my wife is looking to remodel the house and plans for a new a/c unit in the process. We’re looking at a mini-split as an option. My biggest concern is dealing with the condensate at each of the interior units. Did they run a line outside for each of the units they installed in your house?

I remember telling my dad as a kid that I would let the AC RIP when I had my own house, as he like most dads is a stay the fuck away from the thermostat guy.
A little over 5 years ago I bought my first house and lemme tell ya I made good on that promise. I put it on the second our bedroom temp touches 73 degrees. I have it set to set our bedroom to 64 after my runs lol.

We only have the one unit, and yeah, there’s a drain line that goes out.

I like it for lake days, but otherwise I could do without 85+ and humid. I always say, I can dress to be comfortable down to about 0F but I cannot dress to be comfortable in 85+ with humidity.

ha! This is one thing I love about a woodstove - we can make that puppy as hot as we want, and stand right next to it. It’s in our living room, too, so we’re always toasty in there, regardless of the thermostat setting in the rest of the house. Now with the primary a/c being in our bedroom, it’ll be the coolest room in the house on hot days. I can’t wait!

Looking pretty good here a bit to your south:
Need to actually get some work done so I can go play outside without feeling guilty. I wouldn’t mind some thunderstorms though, I’m a big fan of storms.

Actually we REALLY need some rain here. Not all of the state necessarily, but right where we are, we’ve been somehow missed by all the heaviest downpours that have passed through, since early May. I’m not kidding, we’ve recorded less than 1/2" of rain TOTAL here since May 15, possibly earlier but that’s when I started noticing. Normal total for that time period is more like 3-4" total. I’m sick of watering our gardens and plants, damnit! On the other hand, it’s been great weather for everything else.

Not a bad place. I’d like to be somewhere even more urban, but I have to actually get around to finding a new job to afford that. Will happen one of these years.

You’re right, I’m not impressed. But I’m not sure I want to trade for your winters. All that rain looks nice.

WTF 56 Celsius? That’s like, the temperature of medium-rare meat, not a weather forecast. I can’t even.

Yeah that thing looks like it BUMPS. Full disclosure, I live in a “cape cod” so it’s not that expensive to heat/cool. We still have oil heat, but it only has to be on for a few minutes to heat the entire house.

I was going to Svend my car yesterday but got lazy. It’s sunny this week for us until Saturday.
On the flip side I ain’t really using my car till Saturday though.

It has been high 80s low 90s with sudden torrential downpours rather than my preferred light showers for the past few weeks. Hasn’t gotten too muggy yet though , at least by Georgia standards. It's not the heat but the humidity that gets me.

How do you like the mini-split and which one did you get? I’ve been thinking of doing something similar since we manage our A/C through window units too.

I’m working on full brakes for our Volvo because temps are pleasant in the evening right now, no rain, and I don’t need the car. Pretty ideal, I can spread it out over a couple days (nights).

I expect we’ll love it, but don’t really know yet! This is the unit: https://www.fujitsugeneral.com/us/products/split/wall/asu15rls3y.html
I mostly like how quiet it is, both the inside and outside unit, and it has a pretty good app you can use to control it, aside from the remote.

Update: It’s the best thing ever. It’s quiet, powerful, and so far, we’ve set it to 70 and let it run all day with zero window units in the house, leaving all our bedroom doors open. It’s kept the entire house comfortable, including the downstairs which has only the cold air coming down the stairs. We sleep so much better than I ever did with a window unit cycling on and off.
