So I haven’t posted any updates to
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
since originally talking about it back in February. This, as one would expect, has been due to the pandemic and waiting to see when it would be safe to venture outdoors. Now that parts of the country are reopening I figured it was time for an update.
I’m now looking at holding the hunt for a two week period in August: August 9-22. My question to the Oppo community is whether you feel you will be able to comfortably and safely (or at least “safely”) travel around on a treasure hunt by that point, without falling afoul of any regulations or restrictions in your area. Also, is that window large enough or should I expand it and add the week before/after?
Also, after some consideration, the hunt will take place on Instagram much like the last

did. This is because the hashtags make it easier to follow along and see what others have found, and I don’t need to worry about the hunt post being buried in Oppo. EDIT: At the suggestion/request of some I am looking into other sites/apps for hosting the hunt.
Let me know your thoughts on holding Oppo Hunt in August. And if you have no idea what I’m talking about check out the original Great Oppo Hunt post

I certainly feel safe stopping and checking out roadside oddities. I would probably want at least three weeks depending on how many goals are given, but I like the idea very much.
The previous post was full of good suggestions. On that post, I suggested the following.
abandoned cars by decade
Roadside image/statue/kitshe of certain catagories: for example there is a KFC shaped like a giant chicken near me so that would be barnyard animals.
Railroad related categories, since rails are pretty widespread.
Most number of license plates in a single picture
And I’d like to add
Muffler man
Most interesting sign
Gas station memorabilia not chain specific with points for obscurity
to my suggestions. Would you be giving a list of things to find all at once?

Also, after some consideration, the hunt will take place on Instagram much like the last Oppo Rally did.
My inlaws found a website/app called Goose Chase that is dedicated to the photo scavenger hunt type games. It does require a sign on, but it’s free to sign up and I believe it’s free to create a new hunt.
Not as widely adopted as instagram, but it could be an option .

I’d prefer this: I’ve abandoned FB and Instagram, but with a dedicated service like this I could participate.

Sounds great.
Are you just making a long list and we try to photo collect as many as possible, or are you giving photo examples?
A railroad crossing should be easy enough to define.

I’m in (though I don’t have an instragram, would have to figure that out I guess). I have no problem with driving around looking at/for stuff, hard to be much more ‘socially
distant’ than that.

I’m interested in taking part. I’m not positive how hot and heavy I’ll be able to hit it so I would be interested in extra time if possible. I probably won’t be able to actually be competitive, but it seems like something that would be fun. I’ve seen some others suggest app alternatives to instagram which I’d find interesting in since I don’t really have much interest in setting up an account. If that is easiest for you though I won’t let that be enough to stop me from taking part.

Same here. This would be my first rally and I’m still in college so I wouldn’t be able to participate as much regardless. Still, this is a super fun idea and I’d love to take part.

:( August sounds like it’s going to be too soon for me to even think about it at this rate.

Man, I looked into Goose Hunt and loved it. Spent the last week setting up all the hunt items, uploaded game logos, got it all ready to go live. Then I noticed the small print on the final page saying “This game is currently limited to 3 individual participants. If you need more individual participants, please upgrade the game.”
I’d have to pay $500 to raise the cap from 3 players to 20, and request a quote to raise it beyond that. Feck.

Geez, that’s really steep. Sorry to send you on a wild goose chase (sorry again for the pun ), I didnt hear about a potential cost from my mother in law when she was setting it up, but I guess our game was pretty limited too. I wouldn't have suggested it if it was even a $20 buy in.

$20 or even $50 would have been more than reasonable for me. Might have even considered it at $100. $500 and still a low participant cap is way beyond my limit though sadly.

I am Extremely Here for this now (and probably misread the post when I commented earlier?)
. Texas still sucks, but it’s generally okay if you can avoid other people.
