All this talk of brakes makes me think I should do my rear brakes before safety inspection time

Like when I did the front brakes, I probably don’t need jack stands. I do have some emissions/vent system work to do, and I think that the suspect component is way down in the middle of the car; I’ll definitely want it on stands for that job so I might as well grab a pair now, just not at Hazard Fraught . The 2-ton AC Delco ones at O’Reilly looked fairly stout, and the 3-ton ones at Walmart a tad less so, but they probably all come out of the same Chinese factory, right?

I was considering wheel chocks, but part of me says I’ll be fine just leaving it in gear. I could probably grab a 4x4 and use that and save myself a couple of bucks without adversely affecting safety.

Unfortunately it looks like today is the last relatively cool day for a few weeks. I guess my choices will be to the job(s) just before sunset, or perhaps in the 0500 hour, since I seem to be awake at that time despite my best efforts to continue sleeping...

I’m intrigued.... how do you do brakes without stands? Just letting the car stay on the ja ck?

My Accent goes in for front pads and rotors on Tuesd ay as it failed safety due to worn ones the other week ! I have until the end of the month before my current safety lapses! :)

That’s what I did last year, but I put a stack of 4x4s underneath just in case the car came off of the jack. Normally I would be a bit more careful, but it was during a stressful time - very little money due to calling off work frequently because of a recent cancer diagnosis and obviously feeling like garbage . My mother was coming into town to take care of me after surgery and I needed to have the car in good shape for her. She hadn’t driven stick in nearly 30 years, and this was during winter in the midwest  so I didn’t want to have any safety concerns, especially if it snowed - something she was not accustomed to.

My inspection isn’t until October, but in December the dealer mentioned that they were getting a little thin. I haven’t worried about it all that much since I’ve only put a handful of miles on the car in the last six months due to riot curfews, coronavirus lockdowns and unemployment.

I can make a detour stop on my way in from Indianapolis Friday. I’ll be tired, but I stayed up last Friday and it was alright. Took a nap in the afternoon.

My wife is watching kids all day, so we aren’t leaving for the country until either late Friday evening or Saturday morning.
