taking the name of a fictional character created in 1957 by graphic artist Jean Gratonfrom in comic strips first published in Tintin magazine. the Valliant “Grand Defi” was an edition of 16 cars built for the 3COM Star Challenge, a race series featuring French sports and media celebrities. the cars were powered by a 2.0L 16-valve Peugeot engine

The front headlights are from a Golf 4, the windscreen is from a Renault Spider and the XU10J4D engine and the gearbox are the same used on the 306 S16.
Its based on the a Hommell Barquette with the design of the Panamericana on the comics :
