Lol...cranks got wiggle room...just enough to make the chain rub against the derailer when I put me right foot down.....that’s not good

Oh well I’m almost home and I’ve found some shade

Kinja'd!!!

This seemed like a classy spot to have that cold beer I acquired from a supermarket a couple km back

Kinja'd!!!

If it wasn’t for the 70some % humidity this would be perfect riding weather

The underside of that bridge looks to be in excellent condition!

Looks great! Here in SoCal, that’s gonna rent for maybe $850-$1200 a month, depending on how far you have to walk to water and to have a poo.

There would be an entire tent city under that bridge if it was here.

I was always amused being in Switzerland and seeing the local yoof rebelling by scrawling stupid English stuff like “NYC r ude boys ok” on bridges. V andalism and creativity clearly don't intersect that much.

The more I look at this the more I’m curious what exactly you broke this in the course of attempting.

The bolts to the chainring stripped the threads right out where it mates to the crank. When it ultimately failed, I was just lazily pedaling along on some flat single track. I thought I had dropped the chain, which is pretty unusual on a 1x with a narrow/wide chainring.

Anywho. Looking at the damage and conferring with the interwebs, it appears to be some bad or negligent engineering. Or worse, it’s deliberate (planned obsolescence). Crankset had less than 250 miles on it. Ordered a replacement and am working with a machine shop on a fix for this one.

That is a rare event with Shimano. Even the bottom barrel stuff is fairly indestructible. Especially mtb cranks.  Weird.
