Aren't they supposed to wash it for you when they have it? Isn't that the least they can do?

Yeah the Acura dealer gives me a light detail and wash for sure, even Honda did that when I had a Honda.

Never trust a dealer to wash a car that you care about. It’s how you get a brand new car sanded.

*vomits*
Fuck no man. They shouldn’t ever touch anything they haven’t been asked to work on.
I wash it, take about 100 photos and drop it off. All of my cars. That way, if something is damaged, I can claim it.
A sample from the last time it went in:

Whew. Good to know I’m not the only obsessive
who washes
my car before taking it in for service. Something about sending the msg “I take good care of my car so I want you too also.”

Given that I never have, and never will, buy a new car from a dealership, well, shows you how much I know...
Seriously though, I helped run my friends general service automobile repair while he was out of the country last summer and a lady brought in her Honda Accord and it was just absolutely filthy. Covered in dust like it had been parked next to a job site for 3 months. So I washed it just because I thought it would be a nice thing to do for her.

I wash every one of my cars at least annually, whether they need it or not. and sometimes more often like when I drive down a dirt road. Then it gets the magic wand at the carwash for a stack of quarters.

I’ve only ever bought 2 new. The Kia doesn’t really count either, so really just the ST.
It seemed like all the money in the world 6 years ago, so I've taken good care of it.

I actually want to wash my car now because it’s actually mine, but I just got tint and can’t put down the windows for a few days.

Yeah! If you keep on top of it (minimum bi-weekly wash) it really will keep it looking good!

I got it three weeks ago today, and it’s always outside. Did you have a paint protection/Scotchguard dealer add on when you got the Fiesta? I’m wondering if that’ll do anything, as my paint never faded on my old RAV4. Southeast Toyota puts add ons on every car.

I don’t really buy into those dealer adds. My ST spent it’s first 5 and a half years outside, 4 of those as a DD.
Just lots of washing, waxing and careful driving. In the winter I would...uh...power wash every two days

You can’t avoid the add ons at most places here. Also, remember where I live. I don’t need to power wash in winter.
I’m very detail oriented and am always worried about missing something, especially when I wash. I don’t wanna waste three hours washing my car. At the same time, I chose an Alltrack because it’s less of a deal if an off road car like that gets dirty than, say, an Audi.

Most paint damage is done in the washing and cleaning process.
So if you wash and clean the car before it goes in, they won’t or shouldn’t wash it and inflict damage (micromarring, swirls, etc...) to the paint.

It'll go like that. The first wash is always interesting because you learn so much about how the lines come together. You really get to appreciate the design better.

That’s how you really gain an appreciation for the design. How else would I notice how the curve of the rear roofline corresponds with my taillight’s upward slope?
I also believe that colorful cars are more fun to wash than grayscale cars. Seeing that pop of the true shade is just priceless.
