This is awesome and I can’t believe how much we’ve accomplished.

There are 5 of us putting down more than 1 million PPD, 2 more within spitting distance of that mark and Eury putting down that insane 2.5 million PPD!

I'll be 1M ppd here before too long. Maybe 1.2 M.

Nice! Got some upgrades coming?

My Win box is too old and full of cat fur to run F@H. Been looking at all your updates and wishing I could help.

Kinda of thinking that it was enough, I bought Red Dead Redemption 2. Sorta, it runs but not well enough to play. So I’m buying a new PC! Not real flashy, I7-9700, GeForce 1080. I promise to run F@H when not playing the game.

My linux box is a Pi 4 and, sadly, F@H doesn’t have a client for it. I does well for all my electronics projects though.

The 1080 folds like crazy! Like a million points a day. When you’re ready, shoot me an email and I’ll mail you a TEAM OPPOSITELOCK sticker.

I want to pair a 1070 with a 1060 or 1070 mini in my current box and move the rusty, crusty 1060 out to the garage and put it into an older Precision that I’m going to look at today. One step at a time. Hundreds of dollars we’re talking about here...

It is definitely not a cheap game we’re playing here even when you’re efficient at it. I’m running my computational power on about $900 of video cards alone.

Ugh, I’m going down the rabbit hole again. Looking at servers now because they are CHEAP. I can get a system with dual Xeon CPU s, RAM, and HDDs for what I’d pay just for a CPU for the mining rig I was looking at building. I also learned they make PCIe X16 riser boards that would work to stuff multiple GPUs in one.

I just went and looked at a computer from Craigslist that turned out to be an unhappy computer: you turn it on and the fans are loud and no POST screen. The seller was annoyed that I wanted to go through the trouble of making sure it worked since his son had supposedly used it happily in December.

Anyhow, too bad it didn’t work because it had widely spaced PCIe slots and the two six-pin power cables for a later GPU. But here’s the thing: Dude had represented the machine on CL as a Precision, but it was actually an XPS. XPS is probably what I should be looking for and there are probably many more of those out there than Precisions. And the only real computer duties it’ll ever do outside of folding will be browsing websites and streaming with Spotify. So long as it lets the GPU do its thing, I’m golden, right?

Oof - sounds like he knew it wouldn’t work. You’ve had awful luck with shady sellers during this journey!

Yes, very little CPU  resources required for folding. I’d also check the wattage of the power supply and not just the connectors. I don't recall what cards you have, but you'll want to make sure that the PSU is either upgradable or has enough juice to cover the cards plus processor.

As I think on it, yes, I think the guy was trying to jank me.

I am recruiting this GPU (my son-in-law’s) for the team:

Also, my wife said something sweet today. I was telling her how that guy tried to rip me off and how I was trying to set up a machine on the cheap and she said, “Well, that’s your gaming.”

What do you think of this for a folding-pretty-much-only machine?

I do my folding on an RX 5700 and an RX 5700 XT, they’re solid cards for it and hard to beat for price to performance. They’re not the most efficient power-wise though.

I can’t find a good layout pic of the slots and the room in them but it looks like the power supply is upgrade able in the T3500 which is very good.

The T3500 looks like it comes with a 525 watt power supply which depending on available connectors (6 v 8 pin) you should be able to crank 1 GPU in there.

Here’s a thread I found that goes into a fair bit of detail on upgrading that chassis.
