Yes, velour was available in these, and not insanely uncommon. I am pretty sure the interior of this car has been replaced, and is close to original style (but not exact). Here is the original velour:

It would be a very stately driving experience. These second gen hardtop cars are pretty in their own way.  Really needs wide whites, too.

Interestingly, MB kept that general velour pattern around as a special order option into the 1990s, there are even W140s with it:

Not sure if it was offered in the US that late, but I have seen it in MB ordering guides from the late 80s. Very rare on US spec cars, however.
