That lovely thing is a giant larvacean living in its beautiful snot palace. No really, they’re actually called snot palaces. Giant larvaceans look like transparent tadpoles the size of your fist, and the lovely snot palaces they create and live in are used to catch, filter, and store food. They can even guide suitably sized bits of food right to the giant larvacean’s mouth and serve as some protection from predators! The giant larvacean basically secretes/forms a miniature snot palace on its head and then inflates it to as much as three feet wide. Think of it like 3d-printing with your nose, and then it becomes BIGGER. It will live in the snot palace for maybe one or two days before it gets clogged with food and the giant larvacean needs to leave and make a new one, which it can do in about an hour. Once abandoned, the snot palace deflates and sinks to the ocean floor, often taking a ton of carbon dioxide and microplastics with it. So in a way, giant larvaceans are like the ocean’s janitors!

Beautiful, slimy janitors.

Although from this angle it kinda just looks like a big, majestic crystal sea penis with angel wings:

With the way my allergies are acting up this summer, sometimes I feel like I’m living in a snot palace...

My problem, clearly, is that I’m not doing it underwater . Have the pools re-opened yet?

The problem is that you aren’t cocooning. Any old pleb can make waves with snot but secreting a full body covering while underwater is indeed impressive and only comes with lots of practice. Most try nasal hydrotherapy to strengthen their glands.

Drat, no nasal hydrotherapy classes in my area :/ Nasal Hydrotherapy would make an excellent band name...

I’m guessing that is a punk rock band. Funny, there’s a few nasal hydrotherapy classes in my area but they’re full because we have such a hard time avoiding injuries from sticki ng our noses in other people’s business.
