“A Tesla has 100 meters of cables in them. A Mercedes Benz has 1,000 meters of cables.”
Daimler loves cables.

Model S has over 3,000 meters of wiring.
Model 3 has 1, 500 meters or wiring.
Model Y allegedly has only 100 meters...

That’s what they were getting at. The Model Y. Of course, I didn’t expect a PE/Hedge Fund analyst hosting a conference call to go into further detail.

I actually meant that to show how far they’ve come, not to knock it. T hough much like Porsche’s CAN Bus it likely means more electronics at each end of the cables.

Tell them to get back to work.

Who needs to go back to work? The Tesla cable layers?
That sounded sexual.

The people yammering about their dongles on company time.

Sure, but a Model 3 only has four spark plugs.

It’s not a wire if it is a circuit board trace!

But a Porsche Taycan Turbo S has zero turbos!

Huh... Wonder if those changes will make their way back to the 3 at some point.
The Model S is 8 years old at this point.

Give me vac uum tubes or give me a well running car!*
It’s the best I could do. There’s a better joke in there someplace.

Oh no sir. The conference call was about said dongles.

I hate electric motors with their damned spark plugs.

I don’t think you understand. The turbos are spirits that help the Taycan go faster. They’re there; you just can’t see them.

Then all the 1940s car owners will drive by, laughing.

Ah, work related dongle dealings. We’re going to need to bring another engineer on this then. We can expense lunch right?

Lunch?! This is the investment industry, sir! Lunch AND drinks (properly itemized as “chili con queso”, of course)!

Curious, why are you calling CAN Porsche’s? It’s a standardized communication bus used in more than just the automotive industry.

First time I heard of it was in my Boxster when I tried to change the head unit, I guess I assumed it was Porsche’s name for the implementation of the Bosch system. Now I know! Thanks.

Makes sense! It was originally developed by Bosch back in the 80's, and first came out on the 140 S-class . But has been in use by probably every car manufacturer for around two decades now. Even late 90's crown vics used CAN.
