What does FEDEX stand for?
Other question: Why does Federal Express have the need for an “express” service? Are regular FEDEX shi pments not express? Do they need to change their name to FEDNORM? These the kinds of thinks I be thinking about.
Last question: Where’s my package! It was su pposed to be delivered Friday. I guess I should have used FedExEx.

!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Why does Federal Express have the need for an “express” service?
That.
I would imagine that all shipments are express, but some are more express than others.

Legally, nothing. The company’s full name is FedEx Corporation, it isn’t short for anything anymore.
FedEx Express is their overnight service, FedEx Ground is their standard delivery service (often operated by 3rd party contractors, rather than FedEx themselves).

FedEx Express is their fast shipping service, like USPS Priority.
Because “FedEx” is the corporate name and Express is no longer implied, at least mentally, so it needs to be differentiated.
Marketing wise, it was a good idea to use Express after the name, even though the brand name has express abbreviated. How else would you advertise your “Express” service?

Or go with FedEx custom critical when you really need it there.

Yes, it’s marketing, some are more express. I mean its in their name, but did they imply they are faster than the post office with their regular service?

Fedex Ground is actually a separate company with separate warehouses and employees. Fedex Express is Fedex proper.
In fact, Fedex Ground drivers aren’t even Fedex employees; they’re outside contractors. OTOH, Fedex Express drivers are Fedex employees.
Fedex Home Delivery is part of Fedex Ground, and their shipments are sent in Fedex Ground contractors’ trucks and go thru Fedex Ground warehouses.

It appears your humor doesn’t fly low enough.
It’s just normal feature inflation. Just as GL used to mean luxury and now means super basic trim, FedEx now means slow, and you need FedExEx to get decent delivery times. Soon they’ll have to upgrade to FedExExEx being the top tr im level , at which point they’ll stop delivering packages and go into the porn industry.

“Are regular FEDEX shipments not express?”
Correct. It’s like the difference between a city street and an expressway.
“Do they need to change their name to FEDNORM?”
Nah... FEDPotato.

That’s why FedEx is so much better than UPS. The drivers have to give a shit, because if they don’t the next guy will. I managed warehouses for 6 years and got to know the UPS and FedEx drivers really well. There were some UPS guys that had been fired 5 or 6 times, but kept coming back (TO THE SAME ROUTE!) because of how strong their union was.

The Fed “Ex” distribution center by my house is currently holding my brake rotors in purgatory, and has been for about 12 days now.
I’ve tried calling so many times about this, only to be reminded of how ‘express’ they are with 45 minute wait times.
I guess my Corvette rotors aren’t SUPER important in the grand scheme of things, but I’d really like to take it to Mid Ohio next week, sooo HURRY UP!

“ hat’s why FedEx is so much better than UPS. The drivers have to give a shit, because if they don’t the next guy will.”
My experience running a print shop and mail house was the complete opposite. Only used FedEx if we absolutely had to. They were all run so ragged that they made lots of mistakes. I also helped run a warehouse for an educational services publisher. Same deal with them. UPS and USPS whenever possible.

That could definitely play a role. We’d get a different Fed Ex guy every delivery, whereas he had the same UPS driver for fifteen or so years. It allows you to build up a relationship with them. The UPS guys also had better bennies and just seemed more content and happy with their jobs overall. Fed Ex drivers reminded me of Uber drivers in some cases. Doing that until they found something better.
