Hoping someone can tell me why my transmission is fucked up.
Also, could use identification help.
This is what we'll show whenever you publish anything on Kinja:

Looks like an early 1950’s Chevy to me. What transmission does your LJ have?

I think it’s an early 50s Chevy. Like maybe a ‘53.

The first one is likely a ‘53 Chevy 210 - a 150 had a lot less chrome, a Bel Air a lot more. They’ve obviously removed a bit, but I’m guessing they started in the middle of the pack. The one on the lift is the same thing, just a year newer.

It’s the NSG370 which apparently is a frequent problem child.

I ended up driving it home while contemplating an AX-15 swap. Don’t know if it’s practical but I think that’s the one that people seem to like.

Neat an M1031 w/maintenance body (which is aluminum) . Not often seen compared to the standard M1008 . Should have the PTO NP205 and a 10-12 kw+ 3phase genset tied to a big air dual cylinder compressor and also can be used for welding .

‘53 Chevy. I’m not familiar enough with the trims to designate it a Belair, . 210 or 150. I’m not sure how they did the names then.

That clearcoat peel just looks wrong on a car from the 50s. That belongs on a 90s Honda.

First Chevy is a 1953 210, its missing its 3 grille teeth. The Chevy on the lift is a 1954 210. Look closely at the tail lights, they are different between the two years. The 53's had the little round pointed lens, 54s had a different bezel and lens setup. You can also make out the wrap around part of the 54s grille. They wrapped around the corner where 53s did not.

That’s what I thought came in those years. The fella that rebuilt my engine and rear end (as well as swapping my AX15 for a reman unit) did not have nice things to say about the NSG and typically swaps them to an AX15. I got to see both split open side by side on the bench and understood why. Hopefully yours is a simple fix though!

That’s some fine attention to detail.

I changed my mind and brought it home. Pretty sure it’s just broken by design: upon reading more, I’m experiencing the usual complaints for this transmission. Apparently the rebuilds successfully made it worse.
I’ll be researching an AX-15 swap.
