The pile you see here is almost entirely honeysuckle I’ve cut over the last two days. The peak of the pile is over my head, and I’m 6ft 4 . Before cutting this I took two truckloads that were just below the height of the cab of my truck to the local yard waste disposal place. This will probably be an extra three trips.
What little is left I’ll have to get my neighbors help with because there’s no way to cut it and keep it from falling into their yard.
The fun part?
The yard waste place’s hours are Thursday’s from 8-12; I go into work at 7. Then they’re open the first Saturday of each month. So to get rid of this before next month I’ll have to take a day off work.
Next step, I’m going to put up some fencing to keep the dogs out and ask the guys that run my in-laws farm what they use when they want to say fuck you to anything that tries to grow somewhere they don’t want it.
After salting the earth through this year I’ll try and get grass to grow in the spring.

Went on an MTB ride last weekend after a rain. There was a narrow downhill section overgrown with honeysuckle wet from the rain. It was like a good smellin nature shower. Amazing

I enjoy the smell of it in nature, but it’s a nasty plant that will take over everything if you give it a chance.

Yeah...we had a bunch in the back corner of our yard growing over the fence. Then a tree fell and crushed that part of the fence. So I tore it all out in fixing said fence.

Do you have a topsoil/commercial dump site nearby instead of a county/city dump? They will usually take yard waste. That's what I've been doing during the shutdown.

My fence in that section is in pretty rough shape thanks to a huge silver maple that has roots which are pushing up on the base of the fence. I’m planning to shore it up for now and replace the fence after I get the tree removed. Thankfully they actually beefed up the fence in that section knowing the tree would be an issue so it’s not at risk of actually collapsing.

I have successfully used the Home Depot’s HDX Glyphosate concentrate and it kills pretty much everything and allows you to plant grass in about three weeks. If you are looking for hardy drought resistant turf with partial shade go for a nice tall fescue mix. Not as pretty as bluegrass but is lower maintenance .

Sadly those hours aren’t related to the shut-down. That’s the normal operating hours.
The only nearby option is a place that does construction debris, but it’s about 40min away.
That gave me an idea though. I should see if my in-laws have any burn piles on the farm right now. It’s an hour away, but I could borrow a trailer from them so I could get it all in one trip. As a bonus it would be free.

You could also start cutting them up small enough and begin the slow transfer to your weekly pick-up yard waste tote. If you don't have a yard tote, you can still cut them up and let them degrade until you have access to a burn pile or dump run.

My trash bin that goes out tonight is half full of the stuff that was too small to take yesterday. Our trash service doesn’t offer any dedicated way to get rid of yard waste.
Some of them are still green enough that I can put them in trash bags without them poking through. I’m going to do that with what I can and it’ll probably cut me back to two truckloads.
I may reach out to the police chief in the village where I used to work and see if he’ll let me take it to their yard waste area.

It’s also shitty for birds. It’s basically sugar water: addictive but nutrition-free.

If you wanna take a drive out to Gold Bar I burn all the time, got a legit burn permit from the city and usually have a good amount of stuff to burn. Wouldn’t cost you anything, in the event Everett does charge.

Could be worse, you could have to stuff it into the lawn waste bags.

I’m definitely going with something hardy. The backyard will always be a bit shabby because Ruby has created a racetrack back there so it’s not worth the expense/upkeep of bluegrass.

I may do enough to take care of one trip’s worth. Some of it is green enough to stuff into bags fairly easily.

Screw honeysuckle is right! The woods near my house is completely overtaken by the stuff. I just cut a bunch near my shed on M emorial D ay. The biggest was tree sized, the base was probably 8"+ in diameter. I sprayed all the stumps with roundup, so hopefully they don’t start growing again (like all the ones we cut back for a bike trail this past winter). Fortunately I can burn on my property and have access to a tractor for moving the piles of brush.
