Are Craigslist buyers nothing but bots now?

I recently made a CL ad for my Accent (which you have to pay $5 for now) and all of the emails I’ve been getting about it are suspiciously brief and have weird shit like “My name is [continues without saying name]”.

It certainly wasn’t like this the last time I used CL, is it even worth bothering with if you’re selling a car? I’ve yesterday I had a couple messages that seemed real, but they still haven’t responded.

I tried selling a motorcycle on it last summer and it was nothing but spam I got. CL still has some action for non-automobile content but is dead for cars and bikes here. Everything is on FB now.

Truth: I completely fabricated it without the Russians , then decided there was a good chance it was probably true, so I decided to add in the Russians to make it less believable.

Then I decided it still seemed too real, and said “fuck it” and hit publish.

I sold a pickup 3 years a go with web based crap and it exercised my sanity: Random emails and texts, not to mention most actual people are flakes and jack asses who phoned to try to barter down a vehicle without even seeing it. Then random phone calls from people who somehow find the ad cached and phone you 8mo after the vehicle is sold.

I ended up selling it to a young dude not even in the same province.

Yeah and facebook is looking like pure cancer. It won’t let me join the market place (I guess because I haven’t used my account in years) and now I have to join all these overlapping groups to post it that are not only private (so only group members can see the ads) but the posts for each group are separate so I’ll have to make a post for each one.

How is society regressing so much in the year of our lord 2020?

I sold my last car over CarGurus. i did go to the trouble of getting a burner phone and temporary email account so I could text and call people without giving out my permanent contact number or email . Once it was sold, phone gone. CarGurus is mainly dealerships and used car lot adverts, but it allows private sellers too. I don’t recall if it cost me anything to set up the account, but it was well worth it versus the FB and Craigslist horror-show of zombies and scammers

Just sold some ugly ass wheels on OfferUp in a matter of hours. Had five offers, one of which was $20 more than I was asking. Met the half half an hour later with no drama.

The right buyer is there for a decent price but just dealing with the 95% flippers and shysters that think everything should be a fire sale ruin it.

I had a woman stupidly argue that my truck was an 07 when it was an 08 GMC LMM, pretty significantly different styling change to the LBZ. Then the second question was how many km. EVERY ad I posted had the mileage of the truck including a clear picture of the odo. I knew she was 100% just clowning around at that point.

That shit just drives me batty. I probably wouldn’t try to sell another vehicle over $4000 for reasonable list, I’d just bite the bullet on trade.

I put the last car I sold on Craigslist and cars.com (in January) . Got mostly real responses to both but much more of them from Craigslist, and sold it for nearly my full asking price to the first person (from Craigslist) who used full sentences in his email. The one before that (last summer ) went exactly the same way. Wonder if this varies regionally?

I had a buyer offer me $75 less than I was looking for for a set of tires, while also saying he’d have to meet me at a town 30 minutes away. When I took more than 3 hours to reply to one of his emails because I was at work he said “I guess we’re done then.” If that was a bot then I’m terrified by how well they’ve learned to i mitate humans.
