For a living I manage things and people for a company. E arlier this week I had to decide some people that needed to be let go permanently due to projected lost income from all this COVID shit . They got laid off today, word spread pretty quickly that people were let go. I just got an email resignation letter from someone that works for me.
“...it is bittersweet to leave this way. I hope that with me leaving you would be able to take someone else back.”
I don’t even know how to respond to that, and I admire the hell out them for doing this .

That’s very admirable. Were they someone trying leave anyway? We laid off 3 people today and the rest of the staff took a 10% reduction in either hours or salary

No, they don’t have kids and their spouse has a good career and they live cheaply. They can take the financial hit much better than most other people.

Yow. Kudos to them I guess, and I’m also without adequate response.

Do you have anyone you’d prefer to bring back? You reach out to them, bring them back, and respond by thanking them and you did just that.

That’s exactly what I did.
I tried to let people go that would not be hurting financially as much as others. E xcept for one person who is just bad at the job but needs it , that guy is coming back. We can work on him getting better.

I am not jealous of what you had to do. I got into the car business about 8 years ago to longer have to be a boss or the boss. I just went back to work a week ago, but our state's unemployment system was on it and took care of me and my kids for nine weeks and considering I wasnt going anywhere but yardworkland, paid out just fine with the $600 additional

You’re a good dude, and so is the employee who gave up his spot.
Sorry you’re in the tough spot of letting people go, though. This really is the worst.
