Your headlights are on. J/K
This seems up your alley. Employee versus employer and wrongful termination. Seems tricky to prove one side or the other. Is this one of those that gets settled because it’s cheaper/easier/faster than going through the courts?
On the face of it, it seems the plaintiff has a case. I can also see the defendants side of it as well. Seems complicated.

Not to hijack, but while we’re on the free legal advice topic, there’s something that’s been eating at me since I saw the article last night. An ex-coworker of mine has just been arrested for sexually assault in , and they are asking if anyone has any information on him to come forward, because they think there could be more victims. I haven’t seen any of his former employers listed in any of the news articles, and he was definitely in contact with a lot of kids when he worked with me, he’s moved around multiple states and had about 6 jobs since I last knew him, all with children. Is this the kind of thing that they’ll just figure out through investigation anyway, or should I call the local police department down there and let them know? I don’t want to waste anyone’s time or make an idiot out of myself, and I also don’t really like the idea of my name getting into any reports.
Also, he was a key witness for the plaintiffs in a wrongful death lawsuit over a kid that got killed at one of our sister facilities about 18 years ago that got a lot of press , but that’s a different issue.

If they are asking for information, can’t hurt to make a phone call. Explain what you know, they’ll know if the information is useful. Either way you’ll probably sleep better at night. The worst that happens is you waste some one’s time.

That’s what I’ve been leaning toward, maybe I’ll do it tomorrow. Its kinda been nagging at me. This will be the 3rd person I worked with at that place who’s gone to jail, one was financial fraud, one was murder, now this. Actually, 2 out of 3 of them overlapped employment at two places, not just the one where I was .

Yes, you should call them.

I'd let the police know. Worse comes to worse, it's a dead end. Or, more victims get found.

You should call. I’ve been in a situation like that before where I had information relating someone who later raped and murdered an 11 year old . The 18 year old dude used to show up with the girl to the aquatics facility I managed back in my parks and rec days, and the interaction between the two of them was weird enough that I not only kept an eye on them myself by had explicitly instructed my staff to watch closely.
The detectives with the case most certainly be interested in hearing what you have to say, and it can’t hurt. It may tell them nothing new, or serve to confirm things they knew, or could help

Oh God, that’s horrible. Sometimes you just get a vibe, I didn’t have it with this guy. Always felt uncomfortable around him, but I’m pretty sure that was just because of his severe narcissism and anger management issues, never even suspected this

There was some guilt with this, because by that point I had seen enough pedophiles and had gotten the crimes against children unit of the local police department involved in conduct we observed numerous times before, but what we saw with this guy was just enough to raise suspicion but never quite enough to call in. I know we could have done so and nothing more than a report would’ve been taken. It alone would not have resulted in anything actionable to prevent what happened later.
Report it. It may or may not matter in the end, but you’ll know you’ve done what you could.
